Union entry for non-students?

Postby sevenandthedoctor on Wed Oct 14, 2009 5:49 pm

Hi there,

Ive recently graduated but coming back to St-Andrews soon. Does anyone know the procedure for getting in to the union for non-students? I know its something to do with signing people in, but does this also apply at weekends?

Thanks for any help!

Yes. A guest card for the weekend has to be issued before the General Office closes on the Friday.

Since you're a graduate you could buy life time membership. Just take a photo and your matric card up to the general office. It costs £10.
If you do physics, panic.

To get Life Membership, they would have to go to the Cash Office as well though. And prove they were a graduate.

I just went to the general office, gave them money and a photo, showed my matric card and they gave me a life membership. They're shoddy things anyway - if i'm paying £10 you'd think the least they could do is print off a real card that doesn't look like i put it together at home :P

I showed it to a barman by accident once and he almost laughed me out of the pub. It was sitting in the front of my card-holder thing, I assumed I still had my old matric card there!

Exceedingly shoddy things anyway. That I paid £10 for it makes me wonder if I'm still sane.

Ah well. The Cash Office staff used to check eligibility, take payment, and issue a receipt. Only then would the person seeking Life Membership be allowed to return the General Office. There, a sabb would take the person's photo and issue the card. A nice laminated shiny card.

The old passport-like life memberships looked significantly better, but unfortunately they didn't have space for a passport photo. Then again why does absolutely everything need to have your mugshot on it. Surely it may as well say *Only valid with another from of ID* so that there is no need to keep on renewing your HLM/life membership with age?
