Just a bit of advice from someone with a cat who's been dealing with this for ages:
There are definitely places that allow you to have animals, but it's often a matter of luck and what you're able to pay. It's easiest to find pet-friendly places through private landlords, as MDDC and Pagan Osborne just have a blanket no-pets policy on all their properties for their own ease. However, Alba and Inchirie (sp?) do have properties that allow pets; it's just a matter of looking and luck.
From my own experience, it's often just down to luck finding somewhere that allows pets. Just keep looking and trying and contacting the landlords to ask if they don't explicitly state 'no pets.' If you're willing to pay over £500 monthly, it does work out to be a lot easier to find such a place, as I did find a few single-bedroom locations for around £550 monthly. But if you're on a bit more of a budget, like myself, it's still possible, especially if you're willing to look farther out (I'm currently in Guardbridge). However, the distance from DRA is just about equivalent to anywhere within St Andrews, as well as the price, so as long as you just keep looking and keep up hope you should be fine.
Best of luck!
