legendary thread really.

I think someone is angry because he doesn't have a car and he can't say yes to having any of the things Rose wants.

I'm probably wrong.

Well no, I'm probably right actually.

See the thing is that Rose and I could have been the perfect couple!

The car ownership issue can remain a mystery for now :)

I was intrigued - she sounds like she has a lot of potential, but then she went and screwed it up by raising the financial issue.

Too bad for her, because I'm pretty good for cash, and in real life, away from the Sinner, am actually a very nice person!

But as I have reiterated many times on the Sinner this year, I can't abide women who consider wealth, power or status to be in any way important in selecting a partner.

I'm an awesome guy, so its her loss and someone elses gain, but the tragedy for Rose is unless she modifies her selection criterion she is going to miss out on a lot more oppurtunities.
I listen to feminists and all these radical gals - most of them are failures. They've blown it. Some of them have been married, but they married some Casper Milquetoast who asked permission to go to the bathroom. These women just need a man in the house. That's all they need. Most of the feminists need a man to tell them what time of day it is and to lead them home. And they blew it and they're mad at all men. Feminists hate men. They're sexist. They hate men - that's their problem. ~Jerry Falwell

When did I 'raise the financial issue'? Where do I say I consider wealth, power or status to be important? Having a car has little to do with the first and NOTHING to do with the second.
Having said that, you have me sobbing here in my tea over the possibility that I have let you slip through my fingers, you sound like a REAL catch.

What the hell? If she's interested in meeting people, why the devil wouldn't she want to cite having one's own car as an advantage? Nothing mercenary about that - it's just good sense. I wish I knew more people with cars! Damn good job I did in first year when I got stuck in Edinburgh at Midnight with the Strathclyde University mace... But I digress. Anyway, she didn't even say that that she found owning one's own car to be attractive (though whoever owns that red Morgan I keep seeing around town would make a fine partner for pretty much anybody), so apart from being rude and nasty you also appear to be talking though the wrong orifice.

DAVID BEAN! holy crap, is this THE david bean? dude your poster's still up in the toilet in my hall, you know, the one with can on it (brilliant by the way). howd that election go anyway? i didnt vote, but if i did it would have been for DAVID BEAN! and dude, that cat with the red morgan almost HIT ME last week, we got to chill man

I much prefer the bitter and anti-feministic maddog.

Which is good because thats the only one I'll see!

Then again, why bother with the split personality?

HERE'S THE FUCKING DEAL

Postby MadDog20/20 on Sat May 07, 2005 3:21 am

And as for women finding money, power, and fame attractive... well why shouldn't they? Attraction is a biological process, designed to find the best mate to produce offspring with the best chance of survival. People with money, etc. are better able to provide for offspring, and hence are more attractive, trying to change that is trying to rewrite biology. Attraction isn't some magical blessing a la Disney or romantic comedies...

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

We are supposed to have evolved since the stoneage!

Relationships shouldn't be about who looks good on your arm or who can provide for you. I hate the way guys go for the prettiest girls or women go for the condident/successful men.

It's so fucking primitive.

How about building a life with someone you connect with. What's wrong with that idea?

Now of course you should probably be physically attracted to someone, since you are likely to have to fuck them at some point, but seriously, how the hell does car ownership count for shit?

And Pender Native, whoever you are, dry your eyes. I do fine, on the rare occasion I can actually find a woman who isn't a golddigging jizz-bucket, like you probably are.

Gee Maddog, and here I thought she was looking for someone to get to know and POSSIBLY hook up with. You speak as though she's put an ad up for a fiance.

You're still wrong, by the way. Attraction is a biological process. You can't choose to only be interested in people you 'connect' with. Mostly because the people you 'connect' with are the one's who fulfill some subconcious and biological need.

So, I'm glad you're so 'enlightened', but wake up and realise that for the most part, it's not a conscious process. Tell me, did you ever choose to fall for someone? "Gee she seems like a nice person, I'll go head over heels for her, commencing in 5.2 seconds..."

And PenderNative is alright. You're suppositions are utterly inappropriate.

Sounds to me like you have something of the western romantic lie about you.

Oh, and I'd be scared for anyone dating/whatever with you because I think your extreme application of rationality to all parts of life would cause you totry to score points off people all the time.

MadDog - it was a joke, referring to your habit of antagonising women on the Sinner. I wouldn't presume to comment on your prospects in real life because I don't know you. If only you'd had the same courtesy. In actual fact I have spent the past year and a half looking after my fiance who is severly depressed. He has none of the things you list - no money, no status, no power hell, most of the time he can't even leave the house! Yet I wouldn't swap him for the world.
To be perfectly honest I agree with you that looking primarily for money and status in a partner is a bit shalllow, although I don't think that applies to Rose. She only said 'car' after all, not 'Jaguar'
And thanks Pilgrim, having that come from a total stranger was like a kick in the stomache, it was nice to have another total stranger stick up for me!

I can't help thinking that if Rose had written "must love taking spur of the moment day trips around Scotland" she'd have been seen as fun and romantic, rather than people thinking by saying "car" she was shallow and mercenary.

Rose, I hope you find the special guy- although at this point of the year you may be best off waiting for Freshers' Week. Yum, Freshers!

Cheers, Pender. But we have spoken in the chatroom, and post on the same theads now and again, so I feel pretty confident in saying you're alright. It's not like you're a total stranger I've never spoken to, after all.

I think what he was stating is that its not ONLY a biological process. He did state that some of it is biological but from there is who YOU want to connect with. We do have a choice in the matter. Unless you believe in fate.

I think the women who post like Rose NEED to be antagonised. Oh so, because Rose isn't being a stuck-up materialistic, and only simply materialistic that makes it ok?

Alright, alright
lets start again shall we...

Hey, I'm a 2nd year female Arts student looking for some fun. If you fulfil ALL or even ANY of the following criteria then come chat with me!

Tall
Well built
Good taste in music
"must love taking spur of the moment day-trips around Scotland" (Note: love is only a preference here, as I wouldn't want to discriminate against those who do not LOVE such jaunts)
Sense of romance
GSOH
Active
Culinarily skilled
Own double bed
Well endowed (this does not actually mean financially)
Sociable (not averse to lots of drink!)
Dashing (or at least with some vague sense of chivalry)

Now please note that all of these are PREFERENCES not demands.
Money, power and status means nothing to me so do not try and use them to win my attention. (NOTE no chocolates or flowers will be rejected however)

rose_pp@hotmail.co.uk

Rose xx

PS. Getting a bit tired of all this now tho - seems to be much more trouble than it's worth.

You can have no idea how posting such a sassy response has made my opinion of you to rise. Not to mention made me laugh, in a great way.

You've got flair. :~)
