Where's the fire?

Postby Happy-Go-Lucky on Tue May 11, 2004 10:59 am

Is it just me, or have there been a constant flow of Emergency Services' sirens the last couple of weeks or so. Every day for about the last few weeks, they seem to be passing nearby (North Haugh) multiple times throughout the day, wailing away. Is there a particularly high level of people being robbed, or having heart attacks or something at the moment? Are a record number of students hurling themselves in front of cars to avoid the looming exams?

I was starting to think it was me going insane and hearing random sirens - glad I'm not alone in hearing them....proves I'm sane...or maybe we're all going insane?

Apparently there was a bomb disposal unit running about town last night.

Yep I keep hearing/seeing them too. The other day, there was a fire engine outside my house for ages - all that had happened though was a tiny bit of smoke was coming out of one of the cars parked in south street. It didn't really need all the firefighters, but they were rather nice to look at ;-)

And a couple of days ago there were two ambulances down the narrow end of market street so not sure what was going on there to warrant the need for two...

The fourth floor of the Old Course Hotel was on fire. I know as I work at the Dukes Course which is owned by the OCH.
While eating my dinner in the office the short wave radio started going off, talking about some fire on the fourth floor. Its was pretty cool to listen too as it sounded quite serious and the drama was unfolding before me. No one was injured thankfully.

Well, I live in New Hall, but my room is on the 4th floor and points in the vague direction of North Street. I keep my window open all the time, so I hear things pretty well. When ever I hear these sirens they appear to be coming from Northstreet, particularly that roundabout just as you enter St Andrews from the North.

Yep I live on the first floor of New Hall and I hear the sirens from the direction of the roundabout too! - I normally hear them either heading down the A91 (out of st andrews) or going up north street.

I wouldn't call that "tried" I'd call that "succeeded".

Dammit! Heard more today! Think one was a fireengine and one was a police car (the sirens sounded different) though was far to lazy to go see as was still in bed. Such drama in our little town!

The fire alarm went off in Butts Wynd on Thursday morning, just as we were starting a Greek test. And, of course, we didn't discuss the test at all while we were waiting for the fire engines to arrive...

Some prat chucked a brick through the window of the flat below me (I live on St Nicholas Street, just off Lamond Drive.) The police came to our door to see if we'd heard anything but my flatmate had the TV on so loud we couldn't.

Apparently it was a suspicious package which turned out to be a musical instrument case.

Ah yes.....the plus point to Wardlaw was that we didn't have to go out to all the alarms in Lumsden/Old Wing!
