CampusMoviefest- the films not the night

Postby Mutley on Tue May 11, 2004 6:59 pm

So there has been alot of dissin' about the old after union party so we shant be repeating it here!

What did people actually think of the movies- especially the 12 featured but also any others you have seen!

My personal favourite - straight to video, for entertaining stretching of fairly limited editing technology!!!

To see a film that was received so badly it didn't even merit a place on the schedule for the Union screeings, watch:

And they said The Cable Guy was rubbish...

Have a look at the People's Choice thread for loads more on the movies of the night.

Anyone know when and where they'll be put up for download this year?

Judging by the organisation of this year's comp compared to last year. No time soon.

BRING BACK JOHN LIVESEY!

(who got no mention for his exceptional work in last year's event.)

As this thread is meant to be about the films I thought they were well done and very impressive considering the timescale there were also some very inventive plots which was ace! I liked so many films lots made me laugh, one almost made me cry! I liked knowing the people in the films it made them more worth watching. I'm not going to go in to specifics because then I would start to ramble more than I already do.
One last thing as this post is about the films whats the consensus on the most dramatic film? sword in the sand? (Like I said on another post because I know the people and am interested)
Hope everyone else had as good a night as I did, or better!

Trust me having lived under the same roof as John, he gave his life and soul to iMovie last year!

My lecturers still mention now and again how he was asleep through most of his lectures last year during the event due to committing himself to 20 hrs of iMovie(I'm doing the same degree as him)

At the very least he could have been recognised as the founder of iMovie in St.A

Nice to see everyone talking about the films..... and not the event, i guess ill go post on the peoples choice.

But i will concede the event lacked the same drive, hype and excitement all round, the films where technically brilliant and alot better than last year and i dont just think that it was because most people had participated last year. I know 'Turn' had some exceptional cinematography and it was nearly all first years involved (well done dee and bex)

I guess you all make good critics - just not of the films -ehh

That was absolute genius.

Last year and this year

Postby Ben Hecking on Wed May 12, 2004 3:40 pm

As the host on the left who rambled and was boring I'd like to say one thing - the night was fantastic, the films were excellent and I'm going to defend us by saying that we worked insanely hard this year, no less hard than the "apparently" (God-like John).

I'd also like to say that what is the point in us thanking John for his work last year when he didn't help this year (and he had his own reasons which we fully understood - namely hsi PhD)

Could I also draw attention to the fact that John did not found it in St Andrews - David was working on the idea himself and then approached John to ask for the help from Rogue that he needed and I don't think either will mind me saying that. John and David were equally involved in last years event - but David and the other Americans deserved to be thanked this year because of the work they put in this year.

Don't talk about behind the stage stuff you don't understand. But I'd better sign off before I bore you all.

Final thing - the films will be up by the end of next week (all being well) and apologies for the Union - it was out of our control.

Fair enough, Ben. Of course nobody ever wanted this year's event to go wrong in any way, and hopefully you'll be able to impart a good deal of wisdom for next year's team to make an even better fest.

I don't understand that post. Who ever said that anyone wanted this years event to go wrong - do you think it did?

flutterby_by,

I can't help but think that you are being a bit mean towards the hosts this year, its not easy standing up and addressing a few hundred people. I thought both Ben and the other guy did a great job, and even if Ben did mumble abit - it was kind-of endearing and the audience clearly responded.

People can get so hyper critical and forget to give credit where credit is due.

So it seems to have all gone abit out of control on this 'movie based' thread.

To clarify everything, imoviefest set the standard of how awesome a student film festival could be, Vickey, Ben and others including those great Americans worked damn hard to bring it back with CampusMovieFest, and anyone who was at the night knows how good it was in its own right, everything will palour in comparison to last year, when looked at with rose tinted nostalgia, Maybe there was expectation for something greater?

Well we got it the movies, certainly the 12 featured where brilliant and i think in general where better than last years entries. The point of iMovie was to let students make great films, the point of Campusmoviefest was the same... they both where sucessful... nuff said.

I know and I am sorry for being critical but one of my pet hates is rambling on stage and thats what it was. I was actually starting to feel a bit sorry for him by the end...
Even though you may not believe me I realy did enjoy the night and the actual event was well organised if a bit rambly well done to all the film makers and organisers!

Campusmovie 2004

Postby Joesta on Thu May 13, 2004 11:11 am

I thought that the whole thing was really good. The guitarist at the start was genius - new role model - what was his name? The singers were great too. As for the ilms, they were all excellent as well, esp. the hamster one and 'four years in five minutes'. Overall, I think that the bar has been raised as far as movie making standards, and shall definetly enter next year. Unfortunately, I never went to the after-movie party, how did that go?

Finally, is the website for this years movies the same as last years ( http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~imovie )?
