i just failed my first exam here :(

At a loss as to what to do - don't particularly want to resit cos I know the only reason why I did badly was cos i was so ill for a few days during the exam period - the results page doesn't mention anything about my circumstances either. All my other results are v. good - it's just this damn module I messed up on the final hurdle.

I'll give it a few days and then make my final decision I guess.

If it was supposed to be S coded, it should have S, not F next to it. Speak to Dave Roberts. hope you feel better soon, hun. Let me know how you get on. you know how to get in touch if you want to chat about things...

As for my results, can't complain too heavily, although was shocked by one which I thought I had nailed. Anyone feel the same with Corporate Finance in 3rd yr management?

I went into the exam with a 15 on the essay and felt pretty sure that i did ar 15 or 16 level performance - i'm certain that I got aLL the calculations right.

to end up with a 14.3 would mean that ui only picked up a t14 in the exam, which i'm a bit surprised by.

but, conisdering i was expecting a 5 at best right up until May, it's not THAT bad.
I hold an element of surprise

and on a similar topic, does anyone know this supposed algorithm they use to determine your degree class?

Fucking university.
On that algorithm I would have got a First if I was a year younger. GRRRR

Can someone just clarify for me--does that mean that if you have 3 modules out of 8 that are 17.0 or higher, your average has to be 15.5 for a first? That can't be right! That means I'd only have to get a 9 and a 10 next semester to graduate with a first!

Yes, can someone clarify if that is the case? That surely is a major change from having to average 17+ to get a first...which I thought was the case.

Thats really shit iohannes, although if they have a new algorithmn then the marking may change a little, i.e. tutors may be a bit harsher if they know its easier to get a first, I doubt departments are going to start handing out more firsts most of them quite like being stingy.

Damn it, that new algorithm would also bump me up a degree level.

Perhaps a daft question, but what years are taken into account to calculate the degree class? is it just 4th or 3rd and 4th? and what about MMath, anyone know for that?

Just finished the MSci in Maths & Stats, so I imagine it's the same as the MMath. They take 3rd and 4th year into account.

Have I got my exam results back yet?

Postby Bonnie on Thu Jun 10, 2004 12:42 pm

No,
I'm in denial.
I can't bear to look at them.
I fear them.
I'm too ashamed to even have a friend look at them for me and tell me them.
I absolutely want to pretend for the rest of my life that this last semester didn't happen (academically).
Is there a way that I can still make that happen?

[hr]I love cheese.

Well, damn. Now I get to go out and drown my sorrows in lots and lots of vodka and bid a tear filled farewell to my now dead GPA.

once again the lucky git that is myself goes out on the piss before my honours exams, does only 2 hours revision in total for them and that is at 7.00 the morning of a 9.30 exam, repeated the very next day for my 2nd exam. And once again said lucky git gets his 2:1 an exact repeat of his january exams, after doing fuck all work all year too. Eat it!!!

Does anyone know when fourth years will get official confirmation of their degrees? I've heard it'll be in the post any time between the 10th and the 14th. Does anyone know for sure, as my exam results would imply that I'm slightly borderline and I really want to know!!

what happens?

Postby Fiona on Thu Jun 10, 2004 2:32 pm

I failed one of my exams, but it's not related to my degree course. I'm going to re-sit, but what happens if l fail? Do l have to re-sit again, or do l have to re-sit the year, or am l allowed to carry on into next year? If l am allowed into the next year do l have to do another 20 credits?? I'm so confused!!!!!
