The mother of all procrastination!!

Postby gringo on Sat Nov 27, 2004 6:36 pm

Today i have been mostly... procrastinating:

I have watched trashy TV,
I have watched a rugby match (also on TV),
I have set up( or atleast overseen the setting up of) a wireless network system in my flat,
I have removed every single item from the fridge, cleaned the fridge, then put every item back.
I have also done the exact same thing to the freezer, as well as scraping the excess ice off the trays.
i have tidied the kitchen,
I have washed and dried my clothes.

and why?...

because i've got a fuckin essay to do...
why do i do this every single time? am i alone? or is this standard procedure before essay composition?

ah yes... i have also posted this thread which has delayed the torture by a further 10 mins!

Nah - you are all but alone!

Everyone delays doin work by doin, funnily enough, other kinds of work!

should now make this a post to invent, or share, other ways of procrastinating.

Well. I had specifically set out today as a day to copy out my notes. Then I decided it was a good idea to bake. By the time that was finished it was far too late to actually do anything.

I've also taken to watching Murder she wrote and countdown to avoid doing work during the week.

It's really bad.

Oh Yeah. Reporting Scotland, then Neighbours, then Doctors then Murder She Wrote. Thats after 3, and pretty much no time to work before dinner. Oh well. That's weekdays gone.

afternoon tv...

I love Escape to the country, on BBC 2 on weekday afternoons about families 'living their dream' by finding a house in the country. The best bit is you know they are going to be bored and divorced within five minutes of leaving the city.
Except this week it hasn't been on due to...snooker! For shame!

same thing happens to me.

I don't know what it is, but ever since I got here, I have completely lost all focus when it comes to getting work down. I simply can't knuckle down and get it done like I usually do. I have the concentration of a gold fish (i.e about three seconds) when it comes to school work...

Argh.... I am going to be boring and blame it ont he fact that at home I;m under a constant (medium) level of pressure- essays and tests and projects and homework every class/every week at most two.
Here, it's no pressure, lots of fun, lots of fun, fun, fun, fun, killer pressure.

I can't deal with it! You've all convinced my brain that it is on summer vacation!

stupid fun people and their stupid fun events. And stupid interesting things to go and do.

You know, the most exciting thing we did last year (most of the time) was watch family guy , or mel brooks movies, and sometimes go down to the college 10 cafe. But that was always after 11 pm. We had too much busy work to finish the rest of the time.

waaah.
Not that sad actually. Not yet. Will be sad next year when I am no longer on vacation and I get my grades.

but don't mind me, I am seriously sleep deprived and not making much sense.

I used to iron my duvet cover as a method of extreme procrastination, until fellow members of the Italian society committee expressed contempt and ridicule.

But there's really nothing like all those gardening/home improvement/antiques shows on daytime telly for a good bout of non-essay-writing.

^ yep, agree with you there!

am now considering if i have much chance of actually getting a degree? struggling in class and refusing to work may not be the best way forward...
