not only "indie" albums count (i.e. scissor sisters, brian wilson or maroon 5 are not indie), so i reccomend a hearty does of stabbing yourself in the eyes with indie pencils! I definitely agree that natasha bedingfields album is unwritten, I know it is terribly bad, but i dont think even mcgonnagal could come up with something that bad on purpose.

oh, stop being a dickhead and jumping on people who remotely disagree with you! and i didn't say only indie albums count, but the vast majority of posts here quote alternative / rock albums.

Leave William Topaz MacGonagall alone!

According to some professor of English somewhere MacGonagall's rhyming structure actually makes him the worlds first rap artist! MC Gonagall anyone? ;-)

I'm sorry, but Nightwish are not Indie by any means...

Also, on the subject of the Great William Topaz MacGonagall... Are you aware that last Sunday was, I think, the 125th anniversary of the Tay Bridge disaster???

Oasis have an album out this year... i know most people think they are well past it and they are probably right, but it will be interesting to see what they come up with all the same, and their stadium dates will be the biggest gigs in the summer.

Also whoever said they were looking forward to the new Athlete album is sick in the head.

Manics - Lifeblood

the new Manics record is great. It may be rather derivative of parts of New Order's Lowlife & U2's Joshua Tree but when it's done as expertly as it is, it makes for excellent listening. James has never sounded quite so in command of his vocals whilst the music is flawless, utterly consistent & soars with an almost uplifting sense of melancholy.

I heard a Chris Martin version of Rudolph the other day....

Anyway I liked:

American Idiot - Green Day
Hopes and Fears - Keane
Hot Fuss - The Killers
Closer - Josh Groban

and other ones but I can't remember and my time at the delightful EasyInternetCafe is running out

Ok, here goes:

1. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
2. Muse - Absolution
3. The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives
4. The Libertines - The Libertines
5. The Killers - Hot Fuss
6. Razorlight - Up All Night
7. The Zutons - Who Killed The Zutons?

Ok, erm, that's a bitty more than 5, sorry.
One coming out I'm particulary looking forward to is 'Employment' by the Kaiser Chiefs, out on March 7th. Saw them live supporting Franz Ferdinand the other week, they were great!

Isis - Panopticon was amazing, although not quite as good as Oceanic. Both are amongst the most musically accomplished albums I've ever listened to, and nobody else will listen to either as they're too heavy, apparently.

We also had the first decent Deicide album in ages (with a typically embarrassing name, Scars Of The Crucifix), and Mastodon's new album had the drumming of the year.

Best old-band-I-got-into-for-the-first-time-this-year was Pelican, with an entirely stunning instrumental album called Australasia. No vocals so I don't have to put up with people going "hurr how can you listen to the singing", which makes it even better.

Did anyone buy the "Hope of the States" album? I've heard a few tracks recently and I really liked them, but I wasn't impressed by the single they had out. Anyone know if the album is any good?
