RAG Week 2005 - the biggest charity event in St Andrews

Friday 11th: Opening Bop; tonight!! Bargainatious price of £4, with 50p going straight to charity. Quality sounds and pretty lights to see you through to two am - later than anywhere else in town!

Saturday 12th: RAG Aid: Two top Edinburgh bands for those who like live music from fresh talent. First band night of the semester and the best so far £4 will get you into Venue One (where the bands will be).

Sunday 13th: Pier walk starting at St Salvator's Chapel at noon, all welcome and totally free!!
ALSO Daily Telegraph's pub quiz in the main bar at 9pm with the chance of winning a trip to Hong Kong and China!!

Monday 14th: Are you single? Getting sick of those couples that take up the whole pavement and walk slower than your nan? Come to the union! Avoid the couples! Meet someone new and maybe win a meal for two! Speed Dating, Venue 2, 9pm, £4.

Tuesday 15th 8:30pm: Roll up! Roll up! Come see the finest male specimens from all around as they endeavor to win the much sought title of Mr St Andrews. £5 for a night of wicked entertainment!!

Wednesday 16th 8:30pm: RAGs Not Riches: Real fashion. Real people. Real budgets. With clothes from Monsoon, UKDesign, Sam Thomas, French Connection, Primark and many many more. Featuring the launch of our Make Poverty History Campaign, as well as a raffle full prizes of vouchers and accessories, you'd be missing out for the sake of £5!!

Thursday 17th: Behind the Bikesheds 9pm: Wear that faithful school uniform and get in for £2.50 instead of £3.50 and help us see in the close of the ever succesful RAG Week! Featuring the gunging of the sabbatical of your choice, visit www.ragweek.org.uk for more details on the gunging and all our other events!!

All profits go to our 5 nominated charities: Oxfam, Breast Cancer Campaign, Cancer Research UK, SVS and Fife Society for the Blind.

Both RAG Aid and RAGs Not Riches are open to the public and tickets are available from BESS now.

Don't forget - the Real Ale Society's special charity Rag Ale is available in the Cellar this week. Proceeds from sale of Rag Ale will be added to the big Rag week charity pot.

I always wonder why we support breast cancer research specifically and not some sort of male cancer... say... I don't know.. testicular cancer which kills more men than breast cancer kills women (though men can get that too).. this is obviously politically incorrect and I will be speaking to the mens' issues rep asap!

We support the breast cancer campaign because it was voted to be one of our nominated charities. Cancer Research UK is doing a drive at the moment to promote the issue of testicular cancer, they are also one of our nominated charities. So you can support ...i dont know... testicular cancer then you could come along to RAG Week, or maybe get involved in the charities campaign so that you can help us chose our nominated charities at the AGM?

Incidently, our support for the Breast Cancer Campaign (which receives as much as CRUK) is so substantial that we now totally fund a project in Dundee and partially a project at the University of Aberdeen Medical School.

All profits from the events this RAG Week go to our five nominated charities equally, and just by coming to events you help thousands of people.

I am currently planning a testicular cancer awareness campaign, I call it the "Feel Your Balls" campaign.

I was really annoyed that the live music ended at 11:30 last night. I bought a band at 11:15, I would have thought the person selling them would have had the common decency to tell me it was nearly finished. I paid £4 for 2.5 songs.

and to those who say, oh but it's for charity, shut the fuck up, I would be happy to put £4 in a bucket if I knew thats what I was doing and knew I was getting nothing for it. That is not the point of the rant, the point is that I should have been informed that there were only 2 bands on instead of three. Infact everyone should have been informed. Hiding things like that that is unfair and, at a guess, I assume illegal.
