Why is it easier to fall in then out?

Ok, must have had too much caffiene as I never use the L-word coz it's too vague. But was just wondering why it's harder to fall out of love then in. Theories anyone?

That really depends what you mean by harder.

If you mean the emotional trauma that ensues from a breakup, that's obvious - you've lost something.

If you simply mean why is it harder to stop loving someone than to start - that's back to the loss thing again. That and the inherent irrationality that tends to drive such infatuations.

Because humans are evolved to be monogamous (sp?). Thus, it's hard to fall in as you need to find the right partner for a stable relationship, while it's hard to fall out as you need to stay with your one partner.

Stick to chocolate, the neurochemistry is the same, yet it's oh so cheaper.

It depends really. I've known people who simply refuse to fall in love, but when they finally give in, they're looking for excuses to get out.

I think its hard both ways, especially if you resist it when it begins. It only seems harder to fall out of love because it bloody hurts like hell

it's also something to do with cognitive dissonance i think, where you have to accept that decisions and choices that you have made in the past have turned out to be wrong and it's a nightmare trying to reconcile what you used to believe with what you know now.

It wasn't a typographical error, and why I know this is that the keys 'e' and 'a' are far enough apart on a QWERTY keyboard to be unmistakeable, and because the error was repeated (read the original post - 'then' appears erroneously twice). The thing is, some people actually think that 'then' is the correct word to use in these situations; you're on Live Journal, so you must have noticed. I hate people who correct typos and nitpicky grammatical errors on this board as much as anyone, but as with the 'superior than' thread, it's a common, stupid mistake that really ought to be corrected wherever it is encountered, lest it should be perpetuated by people seeing it and thinking it's right.

Maisha have you thought of leaving St.Andrews and joining the Derek Zoolander Center For Children Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too? They can teach you that there's more to life than bad grammar and falling in love than out of love.

I'm falling out at the moment. It's not so hard. It's a relief really. Yes, you have to face that you were wrong about something or someone, but better now than never. There's a saying in German: Better an ending with terror, than terror without an ending...

Ok, ok, I confess! I can't tell the bloody difference between then and than, I know there is one, and I'm probably told 100 times over what that difference is. But to be honest I couldn't care less when writing on an internet chat room.
