I'm not sure of any places near St. Andrews (there will be some though), but the best way to get into shooting is start with clays.

Isn't there a clay shooting centre on the back road to Tayport? down by tentsmuir?

Hunting very is very rarely done on foot. I have never come across hunting carried out on foot, for the simple reason that most things that require hunting are too quick to follow on foot.

What do they, or did they, hunt on foot? Im intrigued!!

Foxes.

I'm from Northern Ireland where we hunt on foot a lot - it's called beagaling ie: done with a pack of beagals... Foxes, hares.

Well I don't really do the hunting thing much but the one time I did go (in America) we did use dogs but sadly no not horses and funny red coats. It was also fucking cold and not a very enjoyable time.

As for fishing though, I love it. During the summer months I enjoy deep sea fishing here at home, in spring I enjoy flats fishing in Florida, and for the rest of the year, I now plan to enjoy myself in good ole St. Andrews as well. I recently had an idea when I was in the LLBean store and decided to purchase a new surf rod. Therefore you may find me early mornings out on east sands trying my luck for whatever may appear if nothing because all true fishermen know its never the reward we're after, its the getting drunk during it.

I also signed up for the fly-fishing soc last semester but wasn't available for that trip but am excited about this year approaching.

On a side note for the fishing part of this thread as well, Guy Harvey (Jamaiccan by birth), was educated in Scotland up at University of Aberdeen and for those of you who don't know who he is well any hawaiian shirt you see with fish on it is probably one of his designs.
