Gordon Ramsay is a loose cannon and WAY too controversial

This message board is for discussing anything in any way remotely connected with St Andrews, the University or just anything you want. Welcome!

Incidentally, when I was an undergraduate the student body came very close to going on rent strike in order to push for ethical investment.

Really? when was this?

This is all very fun.

For what it's worth, Andrew Neil wasn't always PC. He's enormously wealthy. He was extremely busy. He's a famous face.

He was also a good Rector.

Some say that Donald Finlay was occasionaly non-PC.
He was however, an excellent rector.

It's more of a case that Donald Finlay was occasionally PC. Still, a brilliant mind and a good rector.

As far as a can see, the entire Ramsey campaign rests on 3 things

1) he's rich

2) he's famous

3) he'll "fucking" fight for you

Based on that, i don't think he has my vote

i've not seen any Ramsey campaign material that says that.

Jesus. What a sexist bastard. And what a sense of humour - sneakily giving veggies meat - the man clearly has zero respect for anyone who isn't exactly like him. I have no problem with him being a meat-eating man, but I find it really offensive that he is so derisive of vegeterians and women. All round a pathetic human bean aside from alleged cooking talent.

As for you, thackery, sticking up for him after all that food of mine you've eaten! Shocking! ;)

There's a poster in the cellar bar saying that (the Fuck is spelt spelt F***)(he'll fucking fight for you)

The campaign has also made known he is prepared to spend some of his considerable wealth (he's rich)

The campaign has also made it known his profile will raise the profile of the university
(he's famous)

If you actually read the article, he made his "sexist" coments because "they were based on a survey for a TV programme which claimed 75% of women asked admitted they could not cook."... Allegedly.

I have nothing against Gordon Ramsay, its obviously his 'controversy' that got him where he is, and good for him for exploiting that....you would if you had the chance.

But fuck it...at the end of the day he is the most popular cos he is the most famous. End of. A majority of people probablty wont know exactly who the others are and wont make the effort to find out either.

I wouldn't mind if GR got the job, but personally I think that Simon Pepper is the far superior candidate.

He is interview in the November issue of GQ by Piers Morgan.

On being asked if he thinks Tony Blair is a liar - 'He's just a manipulator, and a fucking good one at that'. He wins my vote.

But why?

Cos he says the fuck a lot?

Cos he can cook a mean pizza?

Cos he has a good fashion sense?

Cos he puts a pencil on his ear which makes him look like he's working harder? (it does work, i do it sometimes)

Cos he called Edwina Currie a diseased bitch?

Cos he's on the front page of the BBC news website right now quoted as saying women can't cook to save their lives?

Cos he's got so many policies based on communication with the students?

Cos you say so?

As far as a can see, the entire Ramsey campaign rests on 3 things

1) he's rich

2) he's famous

3) he'll "fucking" fight for you

I doubt he'd want the vote of someone so obsessed with the 'word' Cos.

Give me strength.

As for sexist... Germaine Greer ran a strong campaign in the last elections. I'd like to see anyone claim that she wasn't/isn't sexist.

...but then again, that is only my opinion.

I think the most profitable returns for an educational institution's investments comes from investing in education.

Money isn't the only profit.(as any beginner economist would be able to tell you.)

Call me uneducated, call me ignorant, call me what you will (sticks and stones) but I haven't heard of any of the other candidates except Gordon Ramsay.

Seriously.

Yes he swears, yes he slags off veggies, etc etc BUT if he is the most well known then surely it's good publicity for the uni. After all, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Now that dear darling Wills has left, if we have a more famous rector then surely that's no bad thing.

Get with the now.

Or you could see this is considerate since he is just making sure veggies get all the protein they need...

Try saying that to Jonathan King... ...and does the university or the student body want the sort of publicity that Gordon Ramsay might bring?

I wonder if any tactical voting will be taking place? Judging by the Sinner poll, if supporters of Yusuke Osawa and Martin Passmore were to switch to Simon Pepper, that would be a sure-fire way of stopping Ramsay from getting in. But then again, perhaps the Ramsay vote will be higher next week as he's the only candidate anyone's really heard of? Or will the uninformed stay out of the election altogether?
