Can men and women ever just be friends???

Postby Tenrag on Sun Jan 29, 2006 6:36 pm

What do you think about the above question? I think it seems to be a lot easier if both the man and woman involved are not single. I find that I am hesitant to ask a guy out on his own (that I just want to be friends with) in case he gets the wrong idea. I also feel slightly weird about mentioning that I just want to be friends because it would probably sound like I think he fancies me, when I don't and would just like to make sure we are both happy just being friends.

- I’ve wrote this question for heterosexual relationships but obviously applies to all sexualities e.g. 2 lesbians being friends etc

Yes, men and women can very easily just be friends. I have loads of male friends and i've just never really worried about this stuff with them - if a guy does like you and says something, all you have to do is say you just want to be friends.

It IS possible for men and women to be just friends but I think it can be difficult in some cases. If one does fancy the other, they are not likely to say it outright and so it is difficult for the other to be blunt about the fact that they don't like them in that way. From my experience it can be easier to be just friends after a relationship because you generally know where you stand if there was a clean break. Sometimes it's really obvious that neither fancies the other but I agree that it's more awkward to ask a guy friend to go out somewhere.

Because I am so utterly irresistable to women, I find it much easier to talk to girls who are in relationships or lesbians, as there is less chance that they will be unable to control their carnal desires and pounce upon me in a fit of sexual frenzy.

When things like that do happen, I generally find that telling the girl in question that I just want to be friends results either in injury to my person or in the girl dissolving into a jibbering wreck of negative emotions.

All that aside, I'd say yes, its perfectly possible to be just friends.

AH no! Someone has found out my secret identity. I don't know why I used it this time - i have used it in the past - i guess i am not one for consistency. I suppose I didn't want anyone to think I was talking about them, which i wasn't. My friend and I were talking about this last night and I just started thinking about it again and that's why I wrote the thread.

Of course you can just be friends with a guy. You don't have feelings of that nature for everyone.Of course, thereis the fact thatin every friendship there is an element of attraction (but this works for same sex friends as well), but of course a girl and guy can be friends.

You can have friends of the opposite sex, just so long as you have more than one.

...but then again, that is only my opinion.

If it were true that men and women cannot just be friends, I'd have no friends. I have tons of male friends and hardly any female friends and I feel 0 attraction to my friends, just because I know them so well and would never think of them in that way.

It depends on you and your relationships. This thought really should not even be entering your head if your really relaxed about your friendship group.

have had no problems being friends with guys but then they all no im gay, in school i always had way more male friends than female and there was never any attraction on either side, as for 2 lesbians being friends - piss easy, just cause someone is of the same sexuality doesnt mean you are automatically going to want to jump them, it really bugs me when girls get it into their heads that i fancy them because im gay, makes you want to scream "get over yourself it doesnt work that way."

i didnt say i was consistant, just right!

If i am out on my own with a guy especially one i haven't known for a while, people just assume things, which i guess is their problem and not mine.
