I saw this on the telly, what surprises me is that someone capable of hacking into the USAs most secure computers doesnt know how to take a screenshot, and thinks that 4 bit colour offers enough quality to be able to discern a ufo.

Hmmm... interesting indeed. Are there many more people who believe in very similar theories? It often seems to me that there's many people believing in weird UFO stuff, but when it comes to the details they all contradict with one another...

Is the implication not that this was many years ago, especially in early interwebs?

If I was NASA and wanted to hide the real stuff, I would put lots of fake alien stuff lying about my webs as an exercise in meme misdirection.

Edit: By real stuff, I mean non-crazy stuff.

The only problem I have with conspiracy theories that say evidence of UFOs are being covered up is the fact that NASA, the CIA, the military etc, they're essentially bureaucracies, and bureacracies leak like they're full of holes. All it takes is for one employee to think the information should go public and the next day every newspaper is sent a big brown envelope with all the evidence that's been supressed. UFOs would be the biggest secret in the world, so there'd also be a pretty big attraction to some to leak the information.

Isn't it slightly egotistical to assume we're the only planet with intelligent life?? With so many different planets and solar systems out there, I think the theory is incredibly plausible. Further, it's entirely possible that other life forms are much more advanced than ourselves, and as such are able to journey here. I sound crazy, I can see that, but I just think it's dangerous to make assumptions.

I agree with the print screen option, which has been around for quite some time too! Furthermore trying to download even a 16bit gif file wouldn't be too difficult on a 56k modem, remember that NASA add colour to original photos so the thing is already black and white (if original)

Had to laugh though when he said he had to do all these things to the image to get it downloaded, its pretty much the digital equivalent to "I saw it! I had been in the pub had 20 pints and then came out and saw it! This big white fuzzy thing in the sky!"

For once (and hopefully last time) I'll believe the U.S. authorities on this one (regarding this guys findings)

You don't sound crazy. I think the point about bureaucracies being full of holes is a valid one though. I'm pretty certain there is other intelligent life out there, but I'm also pretty certain that alien visitors either have not occured or are so infrequent to suggest that there are only a handful of people who know about it. So it wouldn't be a government cover-up, just a few people who think the information would case a panic.

Yes, but would they WANT to come here? It's a bit tenuous to link the existence of extra-terrestrial intelligent life with the existence of UFOs. Most UFOs people claim to see are readily identifiable other natural or artificial phenomena - iridium satellites, meteors, atmospheric inversions, St Elmo's fire, etc.

...but then again, that is only my opinion.

And more pressing, who says they could? We can't...

There has almost definitely been other intelligent life in existence elsewhere in our galaxy, at some point. However, the odds of their species existing at the same time as ours, and being sufficiently close to note our existence and launch an expedition merely to rectally defile some bemused farmers, are patently vanishingly small.

Also, this hacker does seem to be a bit thick.
