Oh, I'm so glad he failed.

He deserved to be permanantly damaged for being so bloody stupid.

Why do you all resent him so much?

I'm certainly not a fan, but you have to give him credit for holding his breath for over 7 minutes.

It's all well and good to poke fun at him, but the fact is he attempts feats which are beyond the will power of almost everyone.

It sounds as if he may have permanently knackered his hands... is that not quite a bad thing for a magician? The only time he was mildly entertaining was when he was doing those cool card tricks and so forth, now it sounds like he may not be able to do those any more.

Oh well, maybe this'll teach him to stop doing stupid attention-seeking stunts. Although somehow I doubt it.

His attention-seeking antics rather annoy me. While he may have failed his challenge, he stills seems to have succeeded in generating a lot of publicity for himself. Especially the fact that he's generally getting all this attention by basicially doing nothing (ie, sitting in a box/coffin/tank/whatever for silly lengths of time). A feat of endurance maybe, but it's ultimately a bit boring, isn't it?

In the immortal words of Marcus Brigstock - David Blaine is a gitwizard. I mean, come on! 'Drowned alive.' Thats what he's called this week long stunt. I thought to drown you had to have been deprived of oxygen, which for the week (excluding the last seven minutes) he wasn't. Also you're always alive when you drown, thats why you DO drown. A dead person can't drown cos they're dead.
To be fair, holding your breath for 7 minutes is impressive, but i can think of more impressive things, like raising money for chairty by running a marathon. Now if he did that I'd be impressed, but sitting in a giant see-through bucket ... no.
Makes you think though, he's probably made loads of money from this bucket/goldfish bowl/call it what you like stunt. Why do a degree when you can make a fortune getting wet and being a gitwizard.
New idea ... Harry Potter and the Gitwizard. Harry Potter spents the entire seventh book suspended in a bucket above Diagon Ally while trying to defeat the evil Lord Voldemort, who is actually David Blaine in a hoodie.
Ok - that is quite a rant - place bets now on how mnay bitchy remarks I get?

I'm not impressed by the 7 mins. He's an illusionist. Mt bet is that for a few minutes before the breath holding attempt he was breathing in pure oxygen rather than just air. This enables ANYONE to hold their breath for an abnormally long amount of time as I discovered in a physiology practical a few years back.

I remember I held my breath for over 5 mins after breathing in pure O2 for the preceding minute.

I def preferred the street magic too. Way more interesting to watch! I just wouldn't want to spend a week watching the human equivalent of a goldfish in a bowl.
