Failling that, check the "Pending" box by selecting the pulldown menu in the top right which says "INBOX" and click "Pending".

Have you recently set up Thunderbird or Apple Mail, etc? These programs will sometimes download all your mail and then delete the copies on the server. Check your server settings for turning off this option.

Basically, server has a fart, all mails disappear, person panics, they reappear a little while later.

Also getting so much spam and same to not posting my address. EuroVip Casino are sending 10+ emails a day. Was fine until about then end of term, did someone turn off the spam filter then?

Either than or when the Uni computers got hacked a while back, someone harvested the e-mail addresses and sold them to the spam mongerers.

Or they're just generating email addresses at random based on the uni format, recording which ones don't bounce and then spamming them.

I find that the uni spam filter isn't all that bad. If you forward you e-mails to gmail then that just about covers all the spam removal.

Note: Don't try to teach google what is spam when it is sent from your uni address, it just blocks all forwarded mail after a few rounds.

I've got the same problem (on maila). The ITS messages page gives a reason:

Monday 23 July - Power-cut affects services provided by ITS
IT Services staff are still (5pm) working to restore services following the two interruptions to the power in St Andrews. Many of our services have been affected. In particular, note that some servers have been only partly brought back, which means that you might successfully log in to your email, but not be able to see either your INBOX or your mail folders.
