Breakfast of Champignons

Probably belongs on the Advice board but anyhoo...

I'm seeking opinions on the best place to go out for brekkie in St Andrews as I will be in town for a few days next week.

Brambles used to be the clear winner but I understand it is now closed.

Recommendations received a while back were for the Vic and Aikmans (many thanks once again to messrs munchingfoo and tigger).
No dietary minority groups attending.

What are your personal favourites for a slap-up nosh-down?

The vic special is good for value. However if it quantity and calorie you seek then I'd recommend The Eating Place on South St.

Aye - the Eating Place is superb, especially for the pancakes and the hot chocolates you can get lost in.

But for indulgence and a true taste sensation then the North Point has to be the clear winner. EVERYTHING IS MMMMM TASTY.

For a hangover-buster, I'd go for the cheapo grease of the Vic. Otherwise, yes, either eating place or Northpoint.

I would advocate Morrisons cafe at the supermarket, as the portions are large, fried and served quickly. Might not be what visitors are expecting of the town though. I used to go to Brambles, but service was quite slow there (I suppose to use anticipation as a tastiness multiplier...).

Sorry, I love mushrooms. I don't understand why they're in the title though, could someone explain? If it helps, I'm in Albania at the moment, about an hour or so and a bottle of delicious Albanian wine after a massive plate of mushrooms (for starters).

Also: I hope everyone on the Sinner is doing well! Next to Hotmail and Webmail, it's the third in the list of places I check first when/if I can log on in my travels around...well...between Majorca and Poland via Albania.

You are both far too kind to what, in retrospect, was a pretty dreadful pun - I only regret that Frank had to neck a bottle of Albanian wine to decipher it. Truly there is no such thing as a victimless crime.

Depends on your requirements, but I have found that a Beaton's breakfast, followed by another Beaton's breakfast, and washed down with a couple of pints of Tennent's, can do one the world of good.

The Vic stops serving its breakfasts at 11.45 and starts its lunches at midday, so it is entirely possible to eat the two straight after each other.

For visitors, the North Point is especially good because of its location. It's slightly past the main drag in town, and it's always nice to take a walk to the pier/cathedral afterwards. And not to mention their superb Dairymilk Buttons hot chocolate!

That's a good point - I've found once you've had a breakfast or two (preferably with a bacon roll and a pint of tea) the bar is open and you can start drinking again.

Sadly I now find Beaton's more inaccessible than Shangri-La, owing to a rather rash decision that the tenner I was saving for life membership of the union would be much better spunked on a couple of valedictory rounds in the Lizard Lounge.
Looks like the North Point it shall have to be.
