Neither this thread nor the poll addresses the issue of those (in the minority at St. Andrews, granted) who would love to go but simply can't afford even the £30 ticket. I can see that a bigger, more famous event would cost a hell of a lot more, but as stated in the publicity: this is only a little student town! If it were half the cost, it would be so much more accessible to the rest (though maybe few) of us.

I know they need to test the sound system and stuff but you'd have thought that they'd have some bloody thought for the people who's offices are right next to the event. Its 1PM and the whole of computer sicence is shaking. That's just bad form.

Would these vibrations not upset some of the experiments going on in Physics/Chemistry?

Quite, the inner harmony vibronics of the celestial accumulator I'd just devised are utterly and inexplicably undone these maddening counter-vibrations!

[/lies]

I doubt it. I'd hope the laboratories in Physics and Chemistry would be suitably insulated from the outside world to facilitate not mind a few wayward vibrations. It can't be much worse than the planes out of Leuchars...

Still, the whole setup seems geared to be grumbled at, I just hope it's less intrusive than it appears! (I've no doubt it'll go without a hitch and within three weeks the only grumblers will be on here....)

It's nice to see cynicism on the Sinner is still alive and kicking! As a graduate though, I needlessly say that I am really rather jealous such an event taking place in St Andrews this year, especially as it involves Star FM. Have fun!

Now I'm all kinds of pro-StarFM and thoroughly embroiled on many levels of the SA, but I too have some issues with the location of the event. Having spoken to (been whinged at by) some of the members of the New Hall committee at least, I know that this event has caused them no end of hassle that shouldn't have been in their remit to worry about.

I also can't afford a ticket (not bitter, just skint), though I really hope it goes off well.

I saw the portaloos being delivered this morning. The van they came on had a private number plate that ended in "LOO". Nice touch.

You know what pisses me off? The organisers didn't even have the common decency to consult with those of us living but a few yards away in private residences.

I'm now trying to work in my room (that thing final year students sometimes have to do), and the constant noise really iritates me. However, I can live with that, I can go elsewhere to do my work.

My house overlooks the Old Course, and when they have a competition on that causes noise and disruption we get letters of appology and free passes to the event.

Did the organisers of Starfields bother? No.

I expect the defence will be along the lines of 'well, more people enjoyed it than complained' or 'we don't get thing like this often, so put up and shut up'. It's a disgrace.

Again, my faith in any professionalism from student organisations is taken just a bit lower.

I think it's absolutely disgusting as well for those who live close by, but if they extend any apologies then it would have to be done to the entire population of New Hall and Andrew Melville Hall also.

Which I would like to see.

I quite agree.

Perhaps some sort of compensation is in order? Free drink each?

I don't wish to appear to be attempting to extort personal gain out of the organisers, and would happily accept a simple written apology for the lack of professionalism they have demonstrated.

Are people going to be using the foyer of New Hall as an unofficial annex to the party? The loos there are definitely better than portaloos?

Has New Hall put on extra porters or security for tonight?

I had a great time tonight. But the drinks were quite expensive! I suppose I was expecting boozeday tuesday prices, and it was advertised as Union prices so I can't really complain. But 4 quid for a double spirit and Coke?

But well done to the organisers because it was a great event

It was amazing.
The VIP tent looked awesome, and Hedkandi played some wicked tunes.

From all the live music, the highlight definitely had to be the Battle of the Bands winner from the local school - HARDCORE!!

It doesn't sound any worse than the Lammas fair. That is on for 2 days and nights in South Street every year (longer in Market Street) - meaning residents can't park outside their homes, and have to endure thumping music for over 12 hours at a time, together with strobe lighting, diesel fumes, general ride noise, and hordes of manky people who come into town for it. Then, the night after it, you can't get any sleep due to the street cleaning which takes place. Unlike the golf events there are no letters of apology (in fact, no letters even telling you it's going on) and certainly no free tokens for any of the rides. I do sympathise with the people affected by Starfields, but at least it was only one night, and towards the end of the week, rather than Monday/Tuesday.

It looked cracking, and was an awesome night with tompin' tunes. Great work on the event.

I just hope that lessons have been learned and next year there is the courtesy of a warning and an apology going out to anyone who might be disrupted by it. It is the first time its been done and I'm sure the organisers will learn from it and make it even better next year. After all its our ability to learn from our mistakes that sets us apart from stones.

Oh, on a final note, I hope the three girls that I had to stop from peeing in between Farai and Chris' cars in the New Hall staff car park stay that classy forever!!!

Immense night, Hed Kandi was really good and Lovely Laura on sax was amazing. Shame it couldn't go on longer.

But drinks were a tad pricey - £2.50 for a smirnoff ice?

But can't really complain, good stuff Starfields

Quoting DrAlex from 00:12, 30th Sep 2007They're all coming here - to St. Andrews; the town that never gets good acts, the town that's just too far North to matter, the town that struggles to get itself on the map.

and nothing changes it seems. if star-fm were planning on putting on actual "good" music they could have done a much better job. the thing was basically an overpriced bop that finished far too early and had marginly better music. i spent twenty quid on a ticket and went along for the whole night. i stayed right thru cause i was determined not to waste my money and at no point was it even slightly enjoyable. the ticket has now been assigned to arsewipe duties in the hope of getting some value out of that useless wee scrap of paper.

Shame you didn't enjoy yourself.
By 8pm the VIP tent was thumping, and well over a thousand people had one of their best nights ever in St Andrews.

I've never seen 10 bands play live in the Bop, nor have I seen both Ministry of Sound AND Hedkandi there either.

Not sure why you stayed the whole night if you weren't enjoying yourself. Maybe you didn't know before hand what sort of music was played at Ministry or Hedkandi?

Careful when wiping your arse though - that foil strip can snag where you really don't want it to. And watch out for the perforations!
