Ah, but a closed Thames Barrier will then put you way up north to Cockfosters.

...then again, that is only my opinion.

Marylebone. Straight and easy,

Well, I'm a little hazy on the rules, my copy of Stovold's tome was "well loved" at best. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe, as I am following Marylebone, my only available move is Ealing Broadway.

Correct. Quite a simple example of a bipolar transversal really. Not for the tricky part - I'll go for LADBROKE GROVE, for reasons that will soon become apparent...

Well, in order to foil your obvious attempt for a full circular, you've left me no other option but to risk....ulp... Aldwych

Aldwych???

I'm going to use a ploy I learned from the late, great Hektor Slomavokavich. St John's Wood

I'm calling it, Mornington Crescent in three.

Bravo that man, I always thought Slomavokavich was an exceptionally underrated strategist and this particular ploy is deliciously clever, especially considering the danger posed by Aldwych. I'll lead the way to the crescent with the obligatory BOND STREET.

Aha, a three move finishing call allows for the deployment of a Reversed Parkinsonian Lurch, sending the pace an open two reverse steps. Thus we return again to Ladbroke Grove but without the open possibility of the full circular!

It might seem a little clichéd, but I call the Metro Sports Page subclause 2, and I'll steer the game in a totally different direction with a brazen shout of Acton Town

Sorry to have brought it into play so early in the game DrAlex, but I like to live dangerously. Mornington Crescent in three indeed. hah!

Would it be uncouth to invoke the reverse Crappy Rubsniff rule?
If not, then I'd like to propose "Finsbury Park" as my next move.

(I don't think that's been used since the Verdant-Heidelberg standoff in the late 80s - can someone check?)

Well, chaffinch's earlier predictions of MC in three seems to have been blocked by a rather stylish Startingham manouver, last played, if I remember, in his golden age of the late 1950s, 1958 rings a bell.

Alas, if Finsbury Park's been called, that means all lines to the Thames go into limbo and it opens up a classic Bardsley pincer. Thus, it's not all that tactical, but London Bridge has to be my choice. Now, don't all clamour at once, but I hear your cries - MC in two.

Well the crescent in 2 from here really would be something, personally I've never seen it done from such a precarious position but with lines limboed and extra trains running on the now-inverted Bakerloo line I guess its not beyond the realms of imagination. I'm going to fuel my intrigue here and pose a question of you all - WARWICK AVENUE...tough one that.

I can see more than a few of you are trying to take the prize here, and so I have only two words.

District. Line.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, I am invoking Fitch's rule, and I'm sure more than a couple of you will find your strategies foiled.

Olympia.

Considering that brings the potential possibility void into conflict with the proportional reciprocity rule, I'd have to attempt to recommence play at Wimbledon.

We're trying, but if you're playing by the rules, the game ends only when the correct move can be legally played.

Very well time for the Household Cavalry's last Gambit using the Piccadilly Line...

NORTH EALING.

And if anyone tries to use Vader's 1996 Reverse Crosstrack Train Switch to counter this then I urge them to remember that the Lyttelton Blocker is in play and will put you in Spoon (unless we're using the Duke of Slough rules...in which case the Lyttelton Blocker just puts you on to an Inverse Diagonal and lands you somewhere in the region of Glasgow.)

Following a simple but effective Fawksley passover clause I picked up while watching the great Henry Thorpingdale, I'll take WESTMINSTER.
