How was it? I've heard a few great reviews so far - what did people think?

IT WAS AMAZING! Easily one of the best balls I have been to in my time at St Andrews! Well done Mermaids!

I had a great time!

Only problems were waiting 30 minutes in queue for the toilet, and i didn't turn up that late but they had ran out of mince pies which i didn't understand, but yeah a great night :D

I have to say I really enjoyed myself but a few things did taint my impression of the night:

1 No bagpiper on arrival as there was last year.
2 No fake snow at the entrance like last year.
3 A very small tree.
4 Decorations worse than last year.
5 No water in the bathrooms after a couple of hours (again).
6 Both bars and the first aid centre had run out of bottled water by 11:30 (neither had tap water) which I felt was irresponsible given the situation of the venue and the fact that they knew people would be getting drunk.

All in all it just seemed less well organised than last year which was a shame given the bizarre clamour for tickets.

As a member of bar staff who was working on the bar at the ball I can say we temporarily ran out of water and were waiting on more to be bought back from the union. But I do agree though we do need to take more water with us.

As I've said in loads of places and to many many people, this year's Ball was astonishingly brilliant. Congratulations to Mermaids and the marvellous Kate Carter.

You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a containership full of tanks. Piracy is a crime, do not accept it.

I thought the ball was swell and then some, irrespective of the fact that they had a small budget because their costs were up on last year, which made it even more impressive. The smokers even got their own smoking garden this year, which made me feel a bit less like a social pariah.

Huzzah for Kate and all who worked to make it happen.
