And I'm not an American operative.

Standard response of an American operative.

Doesnt mean he's an operative from the USA though... far more likely he's been sent by the Columbian government and the sinner is a front for furthering cocaine addiction amongst the next generation of British middle class tossers.

Now that's a conspiracy theory. David Icke would be proud...if he wasn't off his face on drugs already.

I have opened the page in three different browsers and I can't see the American flag, or anything that looks like it! Even in that picture above, I can't see anything at the arrow. Is this a massive wind up? Is it perhaps a colour that a colourblind person could differentiate from the background?

As red-green colourblind myself, I can assure you that I have no trouble seeing it. I use an LCD monitor, however, which might be why it's always stood out to me.

Yes, but it's not red on green, unless all green looks one shade to you normally? It's akin to me saying "I can't fly, but I get by as an air traffic controller". How is red-green colourblindness, and seeing dark green on pale green related?

It's probably worth pointing out that you can change the Sinner background in your preferences on your user account. I did that pretty much after The Sinner changed versions, and I've had lovely light orange/dark orange alternating posts for a few years now (largely as due to some weirdness with my dyslexia, I find black on pale yellow/orange easier to read).

I've also changed the background to a faded-out and warped picture from a trip to Malaysia - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/ ... ckdrop.jpg if you are interested (which I'd assume you're not).

It wouldn't surprise me if Oli was an American operative though - he's definitely the sort.

In case anyone's still interested, this is what the background looks like after it's been subjected to Paint Shop Pro's one-step photo fix:

Looks to me like several pictures laid on top of each other at odd angles in a watermark style. I'm not convinced the 'American flag' actually is the American flag, but it's a pretty close resemblance.

So there we have it. A random pattern. An abstract bit of artwork

Looks more like a nit comb to me. Why is there a nit comb on the sinner?

Because Oli is a nit comb operative!!!
