webmail & spam

ever since last summer i've been getting around a page at least of spam per day to my webmail account. i'm sure i've read on here countless times how to get rid of it but i've never gotten round to it. anyone got any ideas how i can stop it? pretty sure it all started once facebook introduced those stupid applications!!

Sign up for a Gmail account and forward all of your st-and mail to your gmail account. The filters on the Gmail account will remove most of the st-and spam.

Most of the spam messages in webmail get marked with a Spam? tag in the subject line. (there are also curly brackets, but this board goes crazy when I use them...)

Set up a filter to delete/move the messages with Spam? in the subject line, and that should get rid of most of it. There's a little icon for the filters settings on the blue bar at the top.


I still get one or two every couple of days, but thats to be expected

if all your spam is from facebook and its crappy applications you can ban it via facebook.

I thought I'd set my webmail filter to remove stuff with [spam] in the title, but it doesn't happen. How do I give it permission to perform the filter rules every time I login.

Edit: Interesting. If you put those squint brackets aroudn a word, it makes it very big.

Check 'Apply filter rules upon logging on' and
'Apply filter rules when mailbox is refreshed'.

I'm getting so many emails from the uni warning me about spam, giving out passwords etc, these themselves should surely count as spam; large in numbers and very annoying

Oddly enough I've never once had spam to my uni account. On my gmail account though I get several hundred a day, thank god for the filters!
