is it active yet?

will I be able to synchronise it with my existing 2 gmail accounts? -- the calendar should be useful

will the uni provide useful google calendars?

it says on the website it should be live FROM today. so far it isnt (to the best of my knowledge).

I've signed up, but when I try to sign in at saintmail.st-andrews.ac.uk, I get redirected to https://idp2.st-andrews.ac.uk:8443/idp/ ... erPassword, which doesn't seem to be secure, do I don't really want put in my username/password on that site - any ideas? Is the site actually secure, and I'm just being paranoid?!

so its kinda messed up. dont switch for a while would be my recommendation.

I've set it up (using Entourage as my mail client) and it seems to be semi-working. Not seeing any emails that arrived after May 31st. I assume it will catch up in the fullness of time.

It's a secure site (as indicated by the "https"), and the certificate checks out for me.

Well that didn't take long. All of my emails have now been migrated to the new system. Cool. Now I can use one email client and can forgo my regular check of the uni website's email page.

For the record, you could do that with the old system, too - I've been doing that for 4 years now. ;)

if you want to use imap you need to use imap.st-andrews.ac.uk as the incoming server and mailhost.st-andrews.ac.uk on port 465 as the outgoing server.

also you need to use your uni login name, not your full email address as the username.

Has anyone set it up using Mail on Snow Leopard? Which settings do you use - imap.st-andrews.ac.uk and mailhost.st-andrews.ac.uk? And did you use your regular St Ands password or the new SaintMail one, and if so where? It doesn't seem to let me set it up using either the new or the old password.

You need to set it up with mail using Gmail as the server host, so imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com for your outgoing. When you opted in for SaintMail there was an option to create a new password to use imap, that's the password you put in with the username.
But then again, I could just be saying that to annoy people...

Hmmm I used imap.gmail for my incoming and mailhost.st-andrews for my outgoing, being behind resnet I don't think it allows SMTP connection to servers outside the University domain....

ct3012 is right but again to summarise...

When using the link on any browser use your University password,

Using an email client use your password you set up when you enable IMAP and gmail servers.
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en-GB&ctx=mail&answer=75726

You can probably get away with using the university servers and password on a mail client within the university network but chances are you will need access from outside of it too, so for simples sake just use the other password and gmail servers.

I'm pretty sure they have thought about that and whitelisted googles servers if that is indeed the case.

This worked for me on Mail on Leopard.

Also using Mail on leopard. Outgoing server smtp.gmail.com works fine, but the incoming server is not working. Tried both imap.st-andrews.ac.uk (with St Andrews username and password) and imap.gmail.com (with username@st-andrews.ac.uk and gmail password), but neither seems to work... Anyone else has the same problem?

It will work under imap.gmail.com and the Google-side password - see here - http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/itsupport/s ... ntMailFAQ/

Hope that helps.

You could always pop along to the drop-in clinic if you're still having trouble...
We also have ITS drop-in clinics running 9am-4:30pm weekdays in Butts
Wynd Computer Room classroom opposite the main library until 2 October.
These are for students wanting help with SaintMail, Eduroam and Resnet.
