Hey all,
I would just like to thank all those responsible (and all those there!) for the bop this evening as it was one of the best nights of my life.

it seemed that all the people i've met over the past 4 years in st andrews were there, i love you all!

the dj was amazing, not only did he play an excellent mix of music all night long (bit of cheese, bit of dance, bit of rnb etc etc) but he played my groups' favourite track ever last. this was a fantastic way to finish off a fantastic 4 years at a wonderful uni.

I am the first person to grumble about the repetitive nature of friday night bops, but I have to say it was the best bop I've ever been to in my four years here. and I can assure you it's not because it's my last bop- after all, I still have another semester to go here- but seriously, it was a really good mix. We got rid of the CURSED AND DREADED 500 miles, and to finish on Insomnia by Faithless was SO cool;) The music was brill, the atmosphere was great-it rocked. Whoever you are, mister dj from last night, please do every friday next semester. I can guarantee it will go down a storm:D

the Dj last night was Graeme, the DJ convenor, he does most the friday night bops, but i admit this was the best i have been to all year,

what a tune insomnia is, even for those who would normally turn their noses up at dance music, insomnia is a classic and one of the best tracks to get a reaction as it starts slow and builds up to the dramatic "rift" if you will.

It was such a fantastic Bop, like everyone keeps saying, the best I've ever been to (proven by the fact that I still hurt all over from dancing like a lunatic with KateBush =D). Fantastic ending to a fantastic year.

It was a good bop - if only the other bops could be of a comparable level :S

But it was good that the year ended with a bang instead of a fizzle - there were some great tunes and to see venue 1 packed just made me giddy like a schoolgirl (not really). It was just a great atmosphere.

OH NO!!! I missed Insomnia?!? Gutted! I left early as it was so packed I couldn't breathe too well - a wee bit hot, which is odd as I can cope in normal clubs. Plus I had to say goodbye to people. But still... It was a very good bop!!! Loadsa fun.

Right, I was wasted, I'm not into pop music and I was seriously overheating but it was a great night. I met so many people I hadnt seen since first yr. The only downside was the amount of guys trying to pull me. Fuck.Off. I only have eyes for one guy and hes not dressed like a pimp. Heh.

I think the trouble with the bop is, and always will be, that it's trying to please too many people at once.

I'd much prefer if it stuck to a themed night format. i.e. R'n'B night, Pop night, Rock night, House night etc.

There's nothing worse than getting into the groove of some N.E.R.D. track only to have the Darkness' latest release faded in next to it. *shudder* The irony is, I like both artists! Just not in the same set.

How about an open-decks night? Give aspiring local DJs 30-40 minutes apiece to show off their wares...

Venue 1 is also too damn BIG. There's no easy solution to this, but it's a gripe for me nonetheless. There's zero intimacy. The very best club nights I've been to have invariably been 'up close & personal' affairs. Again, I don't know what you could do about this.. but anyway.

Quick question about licensing laws: Does anybody know if it's legal to keep an event like the bop open after drinking hours if you close the bar? i.e. could you legally keep the bop open after the bar has closed? I somehow doubt it, given that the opening hours here seem to be council-governed, but I just thought I'd ask. I recall many's a night out in Dublin where the music would play till 3:30ish if it was a big night out, a good hour after the bar had closed. I know I'm not comparing like with like, but anyway.

I doubt too many people will agree with the contents of this post, but let me know what you think anyway...

things have been tried and they do work, the wall of scrim, DJ in the middle, extending the stage a wee bit.. but these reduce capcity and so cant be used on the busier nights (like the last night of term) you also have the problem of time, porters cant spend all day raising and dropping trussing, and students cant spend all day moving the DJ about.

i dont think so, due mainly to the location, i think (tho am not sure) that there is a music license tagged onto Venue 1... but i dont know...
