There's a cactus in one of the rose beds. Its slightly weird if you've been smoking in the garden all day and have only just moticed.

Ive seen some scary stuff on Hope Street.i often see a strange black figure walking, sometimes staggering down in a long black coat. On occasion it has been carrying a bottle of some sort, possibly red wine...or blood. If you're lucky and it's quiet, you might even hear, what can only be described as an upper class Dumfermline accent. One time, there were two other figures walking beside him. One was taller and...gayer. The other looked like a shark.
It was the strangest sight i had ever seen.(since then ive been to Manchester...)

The space round by the church on Hope Street is supposed to be one of the most haunted areas in Scotland; apparently there are lay lines that meet there?

Has anyone seen anything outside in that area (such as the Cabbage Patch), not just in Chattan or a flat?

*dies laughing* It is a terrifying thing to encounter at night... I, unfortunately, have come too close for comfort on many an occasion!

A Floor Chattan...fires and ghosts

Postby tylermatts on Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:41 pm

The part of A floor in Chattan that is closed off is the old Warden's flat. This explains (kind of) why the entrance is not on A floor, but on B floor (past the vending machines, around the corner, the locked door with wavy glass you can't see through...or look up through the skylight--or the place where the ceiling doesn't cover the whole ceiling--and see that it looks up into another floor which also has a skylight).
I've been told that it was originally closed because of the fire, and this led to water damage, which they didn't repair because it was easier to just lock the door and give the warden another room. This makes more sense than the story that the university built a wall in the middle of the hallway to block off the rest of the floor.
However, I've also heard that that area of the building was prone to fire and that there were a number of fires while it was a hotel and a uni residence, and that indeed people died in these fires.
I myself have seen lights on in the windows in the part of the building even though it should be blocked off, and I know someone who lived on B floor and would sometimes look up out her window and see the light on.
I also know someone who used to live on A floor at the end where the hallway would continue on into the closed down part. They say that at night they would sometimes hear footsteps running down the hall from the open end, pass their room, and keep going as if they were running down the hall that does not exist (anymore?).

Having had the pleasure of knowing the Andrew Haynes mentioned earlier in this thread, I can tell you that he's still around town.

He told a few of us, once or twice, the reason that part of A-floor in McIntosh was blocked off. Now I don't profess to remember all the details, but I seem to remember it was nothing more dramatic that the University's usual fire safety policy - there's only one exit from those rooms down onto B-floor. When they were used, an alternative method of escape was provided down the outside of the building, but this was again deemed unsafe, so the rooms were closed up. Sorry it's not quite as exciting as some of the other stories!

...but then again, that is only my opinion.
