First of all, I agree with the person who told everyone to stop being such sore losers. There's no way to have people voting because otherwise everyone would just vote for their own and their friends' and then the winners would just end up being whoever got the most people to go and vote for their friends. ANd no offence, but it wouldnt be fair anyway because to get people to sit down and watch 65 videos would never happen. THe judges did a good job- perhaps some deserved to get up there that didn't but its a hard thing to sit and watch 65 videos- most of which were probably crap.
Secondly, all of the people who keep saying things about Straight to Video- honestly, the effects were good, that's why it was there, but it didn't flow. I honestly could not figure out what I was watching. There needed to be more clarity. And making three seperate trailers is kind of a cop out instead of finding an actual story and sticking to it. So all the 'computer geeks' or whatever who keep talking about this, seriously, it wasn't that great. Get over it.
As for the other movies- the poetry one was maybe the most pretentious video I've ever seen. The poetry was like trying to beat you in the head saying 'i'm deep! I swear!' And using the world trade center? Shameless. The girl in the white dress was ok, a bit overdone, but the music was good. Wish they had said before that it was original. The 4 years in 5 minutes was cute, but not as great as everyone's hyping it up to be. And a guy in a thong is just tasteless- are we really trying to just be crude? Sword in the Sand had good cinematography and cool sword-moves, but a little melodramatic. I thought if the guy had tried to be a bit more subtle it would have been better. And of course, that humming noise... My favorite of the top 9 was the Charlie Chaplin pie one. Could have started a bit better, but overall well done.
The top three- Last Broadcast was good, but a little too 28 days/Vanilla Sky to me. Could have been better. Bully for You I thought was great! Everyone's so up on how it was too sentimental or not enough students, but I thought it was just overall very very well done. Great editing, good music choices, clearly a ton of work put in by getting all the people involved. And the storyline worked and made sense- unlike most of the others that tried to be deep and were just confusing. It flowed, had a message, and was heartwarming. And no offence to the people who said 4 years in 5 minutes had the most audience cheering but this one clearly had the people's reaction. Everyone was awwing at the kid and cheering for the last minute of the movie. This was unarguably the audience favorite of the night. I also liked the hamster one- not as much as bully for you, but it was very good. Great effects, a cute idea, and very funny without being crude or over the top.
overall a very good night. Sorry for this being so long but I'm sick of all the people plugging their own video (especially guatanamo bay- come on people, if people want to see it online they will go. stop posting the link)
