It'd be bloody hard to do any sequels to be honest....

Odysssey : Menelaus is dead so no going to visit him and Helen in Sparta and I've no idea how they'd do the Odyssey without the gods i.e. Circe, Calypso, Poseidon, Athena etc. etc. who are arguably more central to the plot than they are in the Iliad. They also totally omitted the fact that Achilles had a son back at home (Neoptolemus) who would do some mighty avenging.....

Aeneid : Helen should be in Sparta, Paris dead, Andromache a slave to a Greek king and Astyanax (the son of Hector) thrown off the walls of Troy. Rather than them all escaping in an underground passage. So that leaves Aeneas who to me, looked about 15 in the film. And there'd be no visiting Diomedes once they arrived in Italy because he, erm, wasn't in the film at all.

This is just an anal Classicists point of view but you know what I mean. Any sequels would have to bugger plots up beyond belief (even more than Wolfgang already did).

Don't you just love that new Homeric code though about "loving your woman" -bollocks. One of the funniest bits about the (real) Iliad is how women are always at the bottom of the prize lists! Below tripods and shields!

And about the random laughing I feel I should apologise for that if you saw the film last Thursday.

About half of the Classics and Ancient History dept were sat at the back (me included) so we were laughing at non-obviously funny bits just because they were so far from the truth (like the Homeric code bit I mentioned above).

It was the same when I saw Shakespeare in Love and English Lit people were laughing at bits which were very obviously 'in jokes' (although I agree, they were done purposely, rather than the totally ridiculous bits in Troy).
