I understand your anxiety and thirst for knowledge - that's why we are producing the Sinner's Guide to St Andrews (http://www.thesinner.co.uk/guide).

I hope you can find information to help you aquaint yourself before you get here. If you feel that something is missing from the Guide, please email link:mailto:guide@thesinner.co.uk

I have also discovered am on E floor - yay for the power shower. In an even numbered room under 20 - that good? is the view garden or wall? Hmmmm.

Also - fender boy, U better be good, I have scissors.

What does the mad MC before they say "A17a" wotever bit mean, and do ya find out ANYTHING aboot yr roomie before term? Is it random, or another fresher? Fearful of sharing with a big ol' 4th yr....

1 and 6 -a single room in the main part of the hall (on south side - view of a wall, but good rooms).
Across the corridor are
14 (double room),
15 (single), and
16 (double).
7 & 8 are in the next section of cooridor,
then 9 which is a double.
10 (big single) and
11 (double) on north side of same bit of corridor
17 - 20 are in the 'annexe' -
[/i]

Never mind no-one knowing that the annex exists, you seem to have forgotten the rooms that really don't exist. I actually had people look around my "porch" in freshers week, amazed that people lived there. we're going to have a sign next year.

Can any numerate or Chattan-savvy sinners tell Colin who he's forgotten?

C4.....ah, first year....

Postby Frankie on Wed Jul 16, 2003 11:53 pm

2 of my really good friends were in C4 last year...
lets just say that it was never a dull moment in there....lots of alcohol was consumed, bottles were indeed flung out of the window, they were threatened with eviction from hall for noise on several occasions...and men were in and out all the time. There are 2 closets and one bulit in triangular one which is handy...the view down hopestreet is perfect for people watching, and hearing drunk people stumbling down hope street in the wee hours of the morning....ahhh,
check the sides of the wardrobes for bluetack patterns...
the good things are...not too many stairs to climb when drunk, not too many to go down when drunk....high cielings, good karma, fun karma....
the bad things are....probably some bad stains on the carpet, and too close to the warden for comfort...
Ah, C4, bless it, i had some very drunken, but very good times in that room....

Am just going to state the obvious here and now say that all this chatter of Chattan (<- am learning, see?!) has made me SO EXCITED, and yet, impossibly nervous.

Even as I sit with my gale-force hangover, am getting molto jumpy! Gosh Gosh Golly Golly!

Well I know fine well that 12 & 13 dont actually exist! They are a figment of their occupants imagination. I also know who will be living in them next year, and they are not freshers, and know fine well how to find the rooms.

Also, it will make a fun game. Prize to the first fresher that actually finds E12 or E13!!

1st clue - they are on E-Floor.

Something I hadn't thought of - where do the Warden's keep themselves and are they strict in their positions?

I think that i would have imagined myself a much less crap room. i don't know anybody who would have imagined for themselves a shaving mirror that wasn't above their sink.

as for wardens, it's all change. who can tell. they will still live at the end of C and B floors, though the head honcho's flat is at the far end of D-floor.

hmm found this old thread whilst very bored and i wish to know whats so particular about D19!!!

i live there now and i am starting to get rather worried about what sort of debauchery could have been partaken in in my room/bed/shower(especially)...

[s]not that the room/bed/shower has been without action this year... shhh...[/s]

am very intrigued to find out who lived in that room last year as i found a love letter underneath the chest of drawers a while ago; lyrics to the britney spears song 'sometimes' scrawled in pink biro addressed to a guy name 'iain'...

very strange...

That was Barbara's room when we were here and where we met!! Famous....don't talk to me about famous, it deserves a plaque on the wall outside.

Oh, and by the way, that stain on the carpet? Nothing to do with me, I swear.
My God, if them thar walls could talk!!!

Oh my God! what coincidence! That is SO cool! You and Barbara should come back to Chattan and introduce yourselves to the people livin in the room. That is SO weird! So the hall always named its floors a-e? That's so cool! One of my really nice tutors was here as an undergrad too and told me stories about the place in the 60s--I'd have loved to be here then-it must've been WIKID!

If you have accepted your place at University here then I would fill in the form just to get it out of the way, but don't panic you don't have to of filled it in just yet no!! but if you don't have a form and you have accepted your place, contact the uni to get a form because I got mine well before I accepted my place here. Hope that helps!!

well, we had thought about going back more than once. Couple of bottles of good wine, good music........mind you, my plans didn't necessarily involve any "company" if you know what I mean!! Sleep well, new inhabitants of C4, and check regularly under the bed for empty wine bottles!!!

Chattan was really interesting when we were here. For a start it was ALL female with no guys around. Well none that were officially living there. Tastefully known as "Chastity Castle" for those who didn't know any better. And with the biggest collection of Wee Marys thrown in to boot. Weirdest site in the world at this Uni is shambling down a corridor at 11 on a Friday or Saturday night, passing growed women in their dressing gowns, supping hot chocolate and cocoa. I think it's where the phrase "Get a life" was invented.

For me, it was even weirder. Originally it was the Chattan Hotel and renamed Mackintosh Hall when the Uni took it over. I'm a Ritchie, which is sept of the Mackintosh clan. And Chattan is the biggest clan of all in the overall arrangement. Which means this particular Ritchie met his wife in a hall named after the clan he belongs to. Spooky!!!

But it was a good place even back then. All the guys had to be out of Hall by midnight, but we were treated like intelligent human beings so that was pretty much ignored by the Wardens. Well, most of them. There were occassions when getting in and out was areal challenge. Especially since the Warden's rooms were first on the left as you go in. But 5 floors of talent!! Man, were those good days!!!

I do seem to remember telling you some interesting tales on Raisin Sunday. Over the last 4 years that room has been home to all sorts of strange goings on. I would say more, but this is a family site....
