Britians best radio dj of the last 40 years, dead of a heart attack at 65 whilst on a working holiday in Peru.

Irreplaceable.

This is truly a sad day.

I loved his shows - "and this is for that one person in Norfolk who's heard of this band".

He is a legend.

I was really saddened to hear the news too. His distinctive voice and personality will definitely be sorely missed.

Saturday mornings will never be the same - that's a real shock. I know I'll miss his dulcet tones.

It took me by surprise as well, I was in the CS honours lab all day and I was half-listening to the radio, which was talking about someone who had died... but I didn't realise it was John Peel for ages. It's terribly sad.

Yeah I just saw the news on the bbc webpage... That is so sad, I grew up listening to all his shows on Radio 1 and 4, he got me into most of the music I love today.
He's done so much for the British music scene. It's gonna really miss him, as will a helluva lotta people.

This is a dark day indeed. He, his voice and his love for weird and wonderful music will be sorely missed.

What a shock, not the kind of person that can be easily replaced, what a loss he will be.

The fate of indie music had changed forever. Almost all of my favourite bands would be nothing without John Peels help. What is going to happen now?

Any man who gives Bis 5 sessions is a legend... (and perhaps a little crazy).

Im surprised how gutted I am. He's like an uncle on the radio.

*sigh*

oh oh oh...

Listening to steve lamacq tribute just now...

I requested 'We Love John Peel' by bis, as did many other people... they put it in the machine to play and it got stuck. They now have an engineer in the studio to fix it. Do you think its a sign?

argh!! :)

yeah - that was a real bummer of a blow for music.

I can remember the man when his show was on on a Sunday afternoon. And he began then driving the cause for music that isn't a series of jingles and hooks for TOTP. I think I learned more about music from him than anyone else I can think of.

Mind you that was back in the days when the College/Uni circuit was up and running and the BBC actually did a live broadcast on radio from the Union!! And John was up on our very own stage doing his show.

He's going to be sorely missed that's for sure.

I remember him stopping, changing speed, then stopping again when he realised it had already been at the correct speed and before puttting it back to its original speed! Pure class.

But yes, a very sad day. Goose Bumps all over when i heard.

RIP.
