If Arnie becomes president, it'll be like the film demolition man came true!

Here's a thought: in 2008, former Vice-President J. Danforth Quayle III will only be 61 years old. Quayle for President!

Al Gore will be 60 in 2008. Surely that's not too old. Mind you, it would be 20 years after his first attempt at the White House.

As for Daschle, I hear he'll be lucky to keep his seat in the Senate today, so that may put him out of the running in 2008.

And while we're being nostalgic, Michael Dukakis, who somehow managed to get the Democratic nomination over Gore, celebrates his 71st birthday tomorrow.

20 years is nothing. Strom Thurmond stood against Truman and was in danger of becoming the interim President in 2004, 50 years later.

I'd like to see Barack Obama running as VP for someone. His speech at the DNC was amazing, and unlike most politicians, he doesn't bore you to tears or scare the shit out of you a la Bush.

Well, Sen. Daschle was defeated in South Dakota, which might hinder his prospects for the Democratic nomination in 2008. Interesting to note, too, that John Edwards gave up his Senate seat and it looks now as if he won't be the next VP, so will his lack of a platform hinder his chances for 2008?

What? He died in 2003

He stood against Truman in 1948, so 1998 would have been a valid date of death for the 50 years to work - though invalid for becoming interim president.

I ought to have had 2000, I apologise for my slip, it's the 2008 title that threw me for a moment.

I was thinking, "even after death, the man clings to politics" :)

I think McCain's something like 68 now, so he'd be into his seventies by then but still a contender...McCain vs Hilary- that would be something to see.

I don't think McCain will run, age aside. He's been pretty definite about it, despite how popular an idea of it is. Hillary has also said she isn't running, sort of, but in a way that really left it open and basically everyone thinks she'll at least attempt it.

Although a McCain vs. Hillary election.... How incredible that would be. Not being able to choose between two candidates because of how good they both are! It would be refreshing, at least.
