Red dwarf soc

Postby Rectalprobe on Fri Nov 19, 2004 5:04 pm

My friend and i were talking and we were wondering what the interest in forming a "red dwarf appreciation society" would be?

All we can think it would do would to sit around and drink beer and watch the show tho, but we could find other stuff. Any interest, outta curiosity!?!

Aren't most appreciation socities about the consumption of alcohol?

Just remember, you need a minimum of 20 people to start a society.

As long as SciFi lot persist in showing Firefly, the wost programme in the history of TV (why is the future a western?!?!) I'm for it.

Much alcohol though. If you are serious you'll need to see the Joint Societies Officer Louise Hallman - she will get things going.

You need a 20 people, a constitution, an aim and elections if memory serves.

Problem with these kinds of 'appreciation' societies is the limited activities you can do. I mean, as President of GarySoc (at least, I think the Union still thinks that), we had many ideas, but in practice maintaining interest after the initial sort of honeymoon period really is difficult, and I would suggest maybe a less specific society may be better in the long run e.g. sci fi soc or something.

Ok a)I absolutely love Firefly and think it's a fantastic show but b)Only 14 episodes where made, surely you can put up with it for that long?
Oh, and c)The frontier planets are like a western for because they're a frontier, like the wild west was - being settled by people surviving on the bare necessities.

Doesn't Red Dwarf fall under the SciFi Soc umbrella? Why not just arrange some Dwarf get-togethers through that, much easier than affiliating a whole new society?

Ah, but Red Dwarf also falls under the British comedy umbrella. I'm not really much of a sci-fi fan, but British comedy, that I love!

Only if you want to affiliate to the Association and receive their bounteousness. Nothing to stop anyone forming any society they want.

Sci-Fi soc doesn't just show Firefly! So far we've shown the Battlestar Gallactica mini-series, Donnie Darko, Labryinth, Signs . . Hopefully we'll get a hold of Farscape too:) And yes, we've plans to incorporate more drink;)

If you guys are interested we'd be happy to do joint nights? Just bring the stuff along and we'll show it,plus we've got a grant now so we're looking to buy some new stuff . .

Yes yes yes to red dwarf/british comedy soc.It may be detrimental to my studies but I think that it would be a good trade off.Quality red dwarf time in exchange for a degree? Yep still sound good to me.
