Speed Dating

Postby Cain on Tue Feb 08, 2005 2:28 pm

At the start of last year Bonnie mentioned that part of Rag week would be a speed dating night in the union.

Any further forward with that, or does it have to be organised separately? As i said the last time, i would be interested in helping if needed.

Just think, some couple down the line might end up answering the question "How did you two meet?" with "Speed dating in Venue 2 - we were both there for the irony."

email charities@st-andrews.ac.uk if you're desperate to volunteer.

nobody flyers my room

the only people who know that my room exists are my friends and people who poke their head in saying "ooh, does somebody live here?"

as a result, i shamefully fall out of the loop sometimes

I'm there...hoping it'll be a laugh if nothing else...at least I shouldn't be subjected to any loved-up couples on an overly-romantic Valentine's date. Well, not til at least 8pm anyway...

My friend has somehow convinced me to go to speed dating with her for "support" Oh boy. I hope this isn't as excrutiating as I fear it will be. Also, it occurs to me that it is a bit unfair. What if you are gay or bi? I guess it's to do with most popular demand. Ah well, will see people there tonight I guess. *Keeps reminding herself it's for charity*

Best Valentine's Day ever!

Postby g on Tue Feb 15, 2005 12:57 am

I had a great time, all my fears surrounding it were obviously unfounded! Met a load of interesting people and it wasn't intimidating in the slightest.

Despite the fact that I didn't get any matches, I still got invited home by a very nice young lady for a cup of tea, so I'm calling it a successful night!

Speed dating:
Spend a small amount of time with a large number of people. Learn as much as you can about them in that time, and then decide whether you want to see them again.

If they choose to see you again too, you exchange details, and everyone's happy.

Yeah, flarewearer is right. Mandatory speed consumption on the door. Then 100 people, 50 males and 50 females are placed in a room just big enough for 72.5 people. You do the maths ;)

I must admit, that despite my extrememly strong reservations, I had great fun. I thought it would be really awkward, but really everybody was just having a laugh and a fun time. And one of my mates got a free dinner date! Most of my mates and I didn't get any. But one mate of mine got 4! And 2 of them are best friends.I reckon he should try to date them all in one day. Maybe the 2 friends at the same time. But he says he's seen too many t.v. shows where that had gone horribly wrong. Still, he's looking at a busy week.
