Song Quotes

Postby Bitterandtwisted on Thu Feb 24, 2005 12:20 am

To carry on with the quote games, does anyone have any memorable song lyrics playing in their head at present? Ive just listened to The Kinks:

"Well, I'm not dumb,
But I can't understand,
Why she walks like a woman,
But talks like a man"
Have more than thou showest,
Speak less than thou knowest.

"Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive"
(Iris - gogodolls)
forever on top of my list, followed by

"into this night I wander
it's morning that I dread
another day of knowing of
the path I fear to tread
into this sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
'cause nothing stands between us here
and I won't be denied"
(Possesion - Sarah McLachlan)
Above all shadows rides the Sun
and Stars forever dwell:
I will not say the Day is done,
nor bid the stars farewell!
Are you a terrorist?
- Depends! Are you terrified?

The song in my head at the moment is "Mein Herr" from Cabaret, interspersed with "Magical Trevor", but a song I've always liked for the lyrics is "Flagpole Sitta" by Harvey Danger. (I edited the lyrics a little - well, the chorus. Cause it's there 3 times, and to make it shorter for you, and I'm babbling and ought to go to bed.)

I had visions, I was in them
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
Rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(But no one ever does)

I'm not sick but I'm not well
and I'm so hot cause I'm in hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a tv

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now I'm an amputee, Goddamn you

I wanna publish 'zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind

Paranoia paranoia
Everybody's coming to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm running underground with the moles
Diggin' holes
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me, whoa!

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live this well

^^^ My favourite song of all time!

*sings along*
"I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am"

But until I read this I had the start of Quasimodo by Lifehouse in my head:

"you can be right and I'll be real but honesty won't be a pain that you will have to feel. Cause I don't need your approval to find my worth."

Lifehouse rule :)

Right now ive got various parts of "Sounds of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel stuck in my head, particularly the last verse;

"And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made; and the sign flashed out its warning in the words that it was forming.
And the sign said 'The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls and whispered in the sound of silence.'
"

I also find the first verse of "Can't stand me now" by the Libertines quite useful to sum up how I feel sometimes;

"An ending fitting for the start; You twisted and tore our love apart; Your light fingers through the dark; Shattered the lamp into darkness, they cast us all."

And an all time classic that never fails to bring a smile to my lips is the intro line from "A Fear of Drowining" by the mighty British Sea Power"

"JESUS FUCKING CHRIST! OH GOD! NO!!!!!!!"

'It's only blood from broken hearts that writes the words to every song' is always a favourite. Just so beautiful.

And no one has mentioned Morrissey yet. This is a scandal, so:

"Used to be a sweet boy holding so tightly to Daddy's hand/But that was all in some distant land".

I think this verse from "Everyday is like sunday" is far more fitting for St Andrews;

"Trudging slowly over wet sand; Back to the bench where your clothes were stolen.
This is the coastal town; That they forgot to close down
Armageddon - come Armageddon!; Come, Armageddon! Come!
Everyday is like Sunday; Everyday is silent and grey
"

How depressingly true.

Also, forgot to mention this:

"I had seven faces, thought I knew which one to wear/I'm sick of spending these lonely nights training myself not to care" from NYC by Interpol.

God, I could post so much to this thread. I'll probably be back with more.

I like the lyrics from Dream Theater "Honor Thy Father";

On and on and on and on it goes
Chauvinistic, heartless, selfish, cold

How can you ever sleep a wink at night
Pretending that everything is alright
And have the balls to blame this shit on me

Never in my life have I seen someone
So fucking blind to the damage he has done
You're the rotted root in the family tree

Or Rammstein "Amerika";

We're all living in Amerika
Amerika ist wunderbar
We're all living in Amerika
Amerika, Amerika

Or HIM "Heartache Every Moment"

Oh it's heartache every moment
From the start 'til the end
It's heartache every moment
With you
Deeper into our heavenly suffering
Our fragile souls are falling
It's heartache every moment
Baby with you
Black is my mind when a new day has come
Black are the tears when I cry
Come here and take my hand, join this misery
The fallen angel will set us free

Anything by Half man Half Biscuit really...

"Time flies by when you're the driver of a train, Speeding out of Trumpton with a cargo of cocaine.
Under bridges, over bridges, to our destination. Careful with that spliff, Eugene, it causes condensation.
"

from 'Time Flies By'

Pretty much anything by John Mayer, 'Clarity' in particular (even if the chorus is ooowwwwoooooooo!)
An ancient song by a girl called Rhianna called 'oh baby'
'put your mind into a happy photograph'
never fails to make me smile that song.
The Red House Painters lyrics in my signature
[s]She comes apart at the seams 'cause she never dreams, and she lays up awake, 'cause her feelings ache and the one thing she found as she gazed at the sea, was she lost her faith...her faith in me.[/s]
[s]As I walk away, I look over my shoulder to see what I'm leaving behind. Pieces of puzzles and wishes on eyelashes failed...[/s]

Everyone loves Magical Trevor,
'cos the tricks that he does are ever so clever,
Look at him now, disappearing the cow,
Where is the cow, hidden right now?

Taking a bow, it's Magical Trevor,
Everybody's seen that the trick is clever,
Look at him there, with his leathery, leathery whip,
It's made of magic, and with a little flick,

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the cow is back,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the cow is back,
Back back, back from his magical journey.

What did he see, in the parallel dimension?
He saw beans, lots of beans, lots of beans, lots of beans,
Oh, beans lots of beans, lots of beans, lots of beans, yeah yeah...
Lars Olsen is not the second coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was the first coming of Lars Olsen.

The one in my signature (Stratovarius - Luminous) even though it's been pointed out to me that it's botanically inaccurate.

It's not the way you walk
It's not the way you hold your fork
It's not the stupid things you say in bed
when I cum in your face

The way you hold a cigarette
The way you smile when you're wet
The way you make me cups of tea
when I stay round at your place

It's just the shoes you wear
It's your shoes that turn me on
I don't choose to stare
So please don't get me wrong

I quite like my signature's song lyrics. Mainly because I got away with using them in a geography essay back in school. They are however from Oasis and there are other lyrics I prefer more. And it's not really in my head right now. I'm currently reserving that for songs of the new Doves' album.

From "Apologies to Insect Life" by British Sea Power;

"Gymnastic whores down on all fours, well I would like to give them all a lesson"

And many song titles by the one and only ballboy, but in particular such gems as;

I don't have time to stand here and argue with you about the size of my dick.
Fuck this for a game of Japs and Commandos
Sex is Boring
I've got pictures of you in your underwear
I wonder if you're drunk enough to sleep with me tonight
You can't spend your whole life hanging around with arseholes

and of course;
i hate scotland
