I had a great time. This being my second New Hall ball and not actually being a New Hall resident. I thought the igloo was really cool actually. The 'snowballs' in there were fun and I managed to nail one of my friends with one in the eye.. hahaha.. I was in the smaller dance room most of the night as were most of the people I know. It was my flatmate's band playing and I thought they outdid themselves. A name change and the addition of a drummer seems to have brought things together even better. I thought it showed an enormous amount of effort. Well done to everyone who pulled off a fantastic ball.

I particularly enjoyed the free chicken baguettes handed out when it ended...at least I hope they were free - I tend to suffer drunken kleptomania from time to time.

lol...yep Andy, sure was a top night! I just wana second the big ups for Maria and Robyn - they really worked hard to put the whole thing together and it certainly paid off!! :D Nice one ladies! This was my third one and they just keep getting better and better.

And as for the cheesy music - thank God there wasn't that much - it's about time we had an event that didn't play the same music that the bop plays week in week out (it makes my stomach churn).

I think most of my money went on the photographs - good job I'm teetotal really isn't it?!

And thanks to everyone who came last night - everyone looked so fab all dressed up :)Must be the only time I ever glam up in a dress and sparkly jewellery.

Can't wait till next year's ball now! :)

Again, huge thanks to Robyn and Maria, my only concern was that I got so distracted by the ceiligh that I only got to see the last song of the band :D Who were they by the way, judging by the "we want more!" chants at the end they were rather good. Igloo room was a tad couple-y for me sadly, but i guess that's what it was there for. But yet again, despite total bias, a true highlight of the social year.

The New Hall ball lastnight

Postby Happy-Go-Lucky on Mon Mar 07, 2005 4:02 pm

What did people think? I thought it was pretty good. I thought those tunnocks snow ball things were a bit gross. Not the easiest thing to eat in a dignified manner.

I thought the music in the main room was a bit questionable. An awful lot of rap and not enough cheesy tunes and hardly anything really recent at all. However, whoever thought of mixing Eminem's "Lose Yourself" with that Indian-style song is a genius.

The "Igloo" was somewhat unimpressive: a room with white sheets on the floor and a black light. Ah well. I wouldn't be heading there anyway.

The other main, but smaller, dance room, there was a band playing there. Did anyone else feel like they had time travelled to a Back to the Future movie when they walked in there? Not that that's a complaint. I thought it was rather cool. And hate to sound cliche, but the lead singer looked real nice: Like a grown up version of that kid from McFly with the longish hair. Unfortunately, a girl in my corridor knows his girlfriend, so no potential there.

But over all, I thought is was pretty good. But the drinks were way too expensive. I was quickly rendered bankrupt, and they ran out of wine halfway through the night.

SO what did other people think? Any amusing anecdotes from it to report?

I had a fantastic night, the small room was really good, as was the gambling, and although some of the music was questionable in the main room everyone looked to be having fun! The marriage thing was a bit wierd - but i tested it out and became betrothed to my academic son!
The band were fantastic, my academic sisters boyfriend is in the group and ive always thought they were good, they certainly got a rousing cheer at the end!
All in all a lot of fun and a triumph for the organisers, they should be really pleased with themselves

Thanks for all your comments, i hope you all had a really cool time :) I know i had an AMAZING time. Spent nearly all the night on the dancefloor, wohooo. But a special thanks to Maria and Robin who did most of the work for organising the ball this year.

3rd year at the bay and it just keeps getting better and better :D IMHO Best Ball in St. Andrews ;) Then again i am biased.

I absolutely agree with all you guys! An absolutely great party. I had a great time with loads of fun and laughter. I was on the dance floor 90% of the time, which was a great distraction from all the crappy hard work on my mind and shoulders at present.

Thank you for a great Ball, especially Maria and Robin! :)

I think that fact that the new hall ball consistently has an appreciation thread such as this one speaks for itself

It was fab! The igloo was great at first, but by the end of the night was just white sheets on a floor. the balloons were arranged as a domed ceiling.

As the DJ in the main room I must defend myself by saying that I was playing to the crowd (ie. playing the most requested tracks) and I kept the dancefloor full all night which is what i am paid to do.

I thought it was a great night and amusingly enough the only criticisms I had on the night were that I didnt play enough hiphop. Opposite of what is said above.

Thanks to all the people who came up to say hi/chat to me!

I remember you - pervert! :oP

If my memory serves me well (which it really doesn't, but hey-ho) you were the only incestuous couple (who admitted it) of the night, congrats!

It wasnt that incestuous honest - we've never pulled! Plus we both broke the terms of the contract anyway, me with my boyfriend and him with um someone! But it was a right laugh - im looking forward with dread to see how the photos came out

Postby saffron on Tue Mar 08, 2005 2:25 pm

Does anyone know who the guy in the black suit, with pink shirt and brown shoes was? Think he was with a girl in a white dress. Does anyone know if he's a student here? If so, of what etc etc? Thanks!!!
