"Hadaway and tiddle"- I'll let you guess the meaning of that one.

as an aberdonian i feel that the north east of scotland has cornered the market on inserting words that has nothing to do with the sentence at all...it makes me affa proud!

ooh! another distinguishing feature of the aberdonian language is "fit"

When I worked in Aberdeen for the summer I didn't understand the whole adding "ken" to the end of sentences and thought that it was just a common name in Aberdeen...

Ooooh, a nice Dundee one I've heard on collections when I've been in the lion costume - "D'you want a cosy?" (Do you want a hug?)

Coming from Dundee I have to say, "Eh'd like a peh 'n an ingin in 'n ah"

Also, "It's a braw bricht moonlicht nicht the nicht".

"Fit like?" is the standard Aberdonian greeting, with "s'latah" being a good choice of parting words in the Silver City.

Not just "fit", but most of the rest of the question words have f instead of wh:

Who? - Fa?
What? - Fit?
Where? - Far?

Why? has no Aberdonian variation, except maybe "fit why?".

The f style question words make some fantastically unintelligable phrases...

Far ye ga'in?
Fit yis daein?
Far aboots is 'at?

and the king of them all - Fazzat?

"ken" in the doric? Is that just the same as saying "you know?" the very annoying phrase people tend to use!

After all, "ken" as in "dae ye ken" means do you know.

I like gadgie. But I don't use it that often. Dingwall is notorious for it.

I like the words 'owt' and 'nowt'.

You don't get owt fer nowt.

And 'that's champion, that is'

It's not a colloquialism but thought I'd mention the charming west of Scotland habit of using 'how' and 'why' interchangeably. It used to drive my English teacher nuts.

I like the way that here in Scotland, distinctions are made between all the different types of alcohol, like 'vodka' and 'bacardi' etc, yet everything else is just 'juice'.

Well it seems there are many Aberdonians proud of Doric. :-)That's great that the Peterhead Asda did that. I brought a Teach yourself Doric book to amuse myself with the confusion of the 'ignorant' southerers who dinna ken fit you're on aboot.
Though I must admit I'm a novice at Doric compared to some Aberdonians. It's great listening to the old Aberdonian ladies and men chatting on the bus. I always like the Stracathro service station slogan 'Ye may gang far and fare waur'.
But yeah 'quines'(girls), 'loons'(boys), 'haud our wheesht'(be quiet) are fun.
