You see the very bottom right hand corner of that black smudge that is Aberdeen? That's Cove Bay, an old fishing village which has been surbarbanized, where I have lived since I came home from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Aberdeen is the oil capital of Europe, has the largest granite building in Europe (Marischal College), and was quarantined in the 70s when there was a large scale typhoid epidemic, which was carried there in a can of Argentinian corned beef.

Ha ha! I was born there too. I was brought up in Greenock, but everyone in my class was born there, despite it being 25 miles away - St Francis' in Ibrox.

The nun that presented me to my dad said i was 'A Little Miracle'. Needless to say, when my sister was born in the Queen Mum's, they werent given as nice treatment - 'It's a GIRL!'

Coincidences of coincidences! My nuns, however, lost my heartbeat and my mother thought she was having a stillbirth, until I came out screaming etc

So the answer to where I'm from....Warrington, near Manchester...lol

Could be worse, I'm from Preston and although lots of people pass through it on the train, no one really knows where it is, so I end up saying "Preston ... it's near Blackpool".

Preston is where they wake you up on the Sleeper if you are getting off at Crewe...

or is it?

I know where Preston is I live near there, at least more people have heard of Preston than Parbold. All Parbold has is a hill, a canal (Leeds-Liverpool) and a train station. Not a very lively place

I know Preston too been there a few times as a kiddie.

They also have a better train station then Warrington Bank Quay (then again even a landfill site would beat WBQ.)

Am I the first Canuck? Excellent! Victoria, British Columbia - the southern tip of Vancouver Island, the warmest part of Canada in the winter where it doesn't go below freezing. The island is also home to such starts as Diana Krall and Pamela Anderson and Kim Cattrall spent a chunk of her adolescence there too. It is quite possibly the most beautiful place in the world but when it comes to people, it doesn't hold a candle to the scots. Hence my emigration.

Napa, California... the wine country.

However, I generally pretend I'm from Santa Cruz, california, where my home uni is.

Yay - had never realised how many of us Northerners there were in St Andrews.

And, I've heard of Leigh.

I come from a small town called Morpeth in Northumberland. No one's ever heard of it unless they're from the area so I usually say I'm from about twenty minutes north of Newcastle.

Perth - once the capital, and the crowning place of Scottish kings (or at least near it - Scone being a suburb of it now, not sure if it was historically) and hence no stranger to the odd regicide. Hasn't really been up to much since...

Hello fellow northerners - I'm from Accrington. Feel free to follow with 'Accrington Stanley' or 'do you remember that milk advert?'

I'm living in Atlanta now, and thought I'd got away from it, but... true story....

I was talking to some total randoms in Atlanta a couple of months ago and they were asking me where I was from. I said, a little town near Manchester called Accrington, but I doubt you'll have heard of it, and some guy (an American) says "Accrington Stanley?".

I could have cried. No matter where I go in the world, I'll never escape it.
