ResTel Problems

Postby Satine on Thu Mar 17, 2005 3:49 pm

I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing problems with the phone network. I was supposed to have a telephone interview today, but we had to give up as the line kept cutting out. Sometimes I could hear the person but they couldn't hear me and sometimes it was the other way round. I've just had it happen to me with a different person, so I presume it's a fault with ResTel.

Anybody having similar problems?

I've had problems all day too. Frustratingly, it tells me there's a message waiting for me on voicemail, but when I try to access it, I get an engaged tone, and my answering machine's just not working at all.

I spoke to somebody about it, and they said that there had been a big network problem, but that it had been fixed now. But my phone's still not working, dammit!

Could someone explain to me why, when I ring someone in halls, for the first minute there is occasional beeping on the line?

This is so that an operator can tell that the line does not have an account for outgoing calls, and so cannot accept reverse charge calls. The same happens when you ring a phone box.

It's annoying that the beeps cut off the microphone at the receiving end though.
