Just saw the main points of the BNP manifesto on Channel 4 news.

* Ban all immigration
* Stop all racial integration programs and stop positive discrimination for nonwhites.
* Eradicate income tax
* Reintroduce National Service

and here's the doozie

* Require all adult (white) citizens to have in their home a "citizens' assault rifle" and ammunition.

This rifle is to be used against burglars, people who enter the country illegally and against any "tyrannical government" who would remove the right to bear arms in the future.

Makes you proud to be British, doesn't it?

I have to agree with one point on the BNP manifesto - the end to positive discrimination.

I am fed up with looking at internship programmes and seeing that they are looking for 'ethnic minorities' instead of looking for the best person for the job.

Surely discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity is always wrong?

To criticise positive discrimination is to deny that some groups are innately at a disadvantage in certain arenas because of their ethnic or sexual identity. Of course, one can always take the simple 'discrimination' is always wrong line, and it makes a lot of sense, but there has to be some way of redressing the imbalance that's already present. Positive discrimination is the best way of doing so. The critic generally has a lot to say about how unfair it is that he might be overlooked despite being the best candidate for a job simply because he doesn't have the good fortune of belonging to a minority group. I think people should have to spend five minutes in the shoes of those people whom positive discrimination assists before they talk about who has the fairer deal.

There was a woman at my work who had a gun in her shed. We were talking about Tony Martin and she said that she would shoot somebody if she could. Not if she needed to, or if the circumstances made it necessary for her self defence, but if she had the opportunity to.

that's really quite terrifying. and another reason to thank God that we don't have the same gun laws as some places in the USA.

I find the most worrying is the fact that they aren't saying they want to legalize hand guns or hunting rifles, they're saying that they want to make the owning of an assault rifle mandatory.

Imagine: "keeping up with the Jones'" might be then buying an M4A1 because they just bought an SA80...

yeh, that was kind of my point, I was trying to be sarcastic about the spoons, obviously it would be totally daft to class spoons and guns in the same league, but it makes about as much sense as that saying does. you can't kill a roomful of people in under a minute with a spoon!
