Holy shit! Lightning!

Postby Koala Boy on Tue May 03, 2005 1:41 pm

Just saw a bolt of lightning, looking from a St Regs top floor window out towards West Sands.

Isn't weather awesome!

I just liked watching the people in the street scuttle for cover as soon as the rain started! It's fun when you're all warm and snug inside! (OK, I know, I'm evil...)

Never mind the lightning, I'm not happy as we keep on having mini power losses where I am.

Just before the rain started, I saw a funnel cloud outside my window-that's a tornado that didn't make it far enough down to hit ground in case you didn't know...

Tornado???

Postby Happy-Go-Lucky on Tue May 03, 2005 2:02 pm

Yeah, New Hall had a blip too. But just before it all started, I saw what looked ridiculously like a tiny mini tornado in the sky. I know you can get them around here, though small and rare. I've watched a lot of weather docos onthem, and it sure as hell looked like one to me. I could even see it spinning in a tight narrow funnel upwards. I doubt anybody else saw it but did anybody else as a matter of interest see it? It was in roughly a North West direction.

We had a power blip in Regs. I find it a testament to Nintendo's design skills that my PC went off, while my Gamecube carried on happily. Also it operates when the only thing holding the lid on the disc compartment down is a wodge of blu-tac.

Yeh I saw it too! No one believed me even though I took a photo of it and you can see it!!

Glad I'm not totally loony then - everyone laughed when I told them I saw a funnel while I was walking home.

Yeah me too, outside the library, I was so happy, I've always wanted to see one for real. I really like the weather when it's stormy, it's far more interesting. It was cool when the lights went off in the library, only for a second, everyone was twittering. He he!

Oh, PLEASE post it on the sinner. I was so cross with myself when I didn't manage to photograph it in time. I was scrambling though my stuff searching for my camera and fighting to get on my windowsil but by the time I got there, it had dispersed. I've just been telling my weather-enthusiast father about it, and would love to have a picture to prove it.

I shall try and post up the pic when I figure out how to transfer it - it's not totally clear (it was taken on a camera phone and i stupidly forgot to zoom) but you can just spot it.

Also need to figure out how to post the pic on here too :s I'm so dumb! The pic is on my comp - not very clear so don't get excited -as my corridor (fionnlagh u know who u are) just told me "it looks like a cloud" doh.

So anyone know how to get my pic from my folder in windows explorer to the sinner?

On the news last night they mentioned there had been a tornado somewhere in I think the north west of England. That was the first I knew of them occuring in the UK but there you go!

No thunder in the 'burgh but there is a healthy amount of rain.
In America they think 100 years is old and in Britain they think 100 miles is far.

Hopefully that has worked. Thanks for the offer Duggeh - a friend of mine from Germany managed to upload it on to his website before I read your post.

Bear in mind it was taken on a camera phone and I didn't get the zoom to work so you're going to have to look hard to spot it.
