Baby names

Postby aladdinsane12 on Tue Jul 19, 2005 5:28 pm

I'm not pregnant or anything (nor do I plan to have children for a LONG time) but I'm one of those people who thinks about what they're going to name their babies when they have them. I've decided to name my son Mick (after various rockers, not just Jagger!) but can't think of a single girl name that I like. What are your favorite boy or girl names?

Were I a hippy I'd call them Lightening, Thunder, Hope, Newt and Nature.

As I'm not, I'd probably call them Simon and Jonathan for boys and, erm, I don't know about girls. I suppose I'd leave that to the wife.

My Parents are hippy, so i'm Hope, but I got it easy. my sisters are Pollyanna (she wasn't allowed to abbreviate to -polly or anythin when growing up), and Serendipity, as she was a lucky mistake. If my parents weren't so brilliant in other ways I swear we'd have them for cruelty or something.

Also Hope Whitmore obviously got shortened to hopeless whitless (so surnames are important)

I was nearly called Portia, i thank the Lord that Dad saw sense and talked mum out of it!

My aunt taught someone called Dwane Pipe, now his parents REALLY had it in for him!

As for me i dont really want kids, but if i had a girl i like Rose as its my grandmas maiden name. I dont even want to contemplate what having a boy would be like!

A friend of mine wanted to call his first child Oscar; if it was a girl, Oscarina or Brick.

Don Alphonso, but some may call him Pedro, although that would be not so, for he'd be Don Alphonso.

I'd love to call a daughter 'Arabica', as I think it's a beautiful name, but unfortunately it doesn't exactly meld with the surname...

Niamh I love, Oona, Grace, Helen, Makoto, Angela, Roslyn, Eilidh for girls....

Guess I'm just biased, never really thought about boys names.

For boys, Leo, Noah and Matthias (Matti for short).

Girls would be Freya and Niamh.

From Armando Ianucchi's (sp?) Charm Offensive:

"Mr Galloway, are you proud of removing one of the few black women in parliment, who's name 'Oona' sounds like a type of fish?"

Girl: Katherine/Katie, and I'd let the wife decide really.

Boy: Stephen Haraldsen II

I personally wouldn't go for Othello as a boy's name.
