Current Grez Poll

Postby munchingfoo on Mon Jan 09, 2006 6:03 pm

I hope that is meant in a humourous light?

The options given are very leading and one sided.

3 are on one side of the arguement. i.e. he did wrong we should do this - " ... "

only one is not on this side but it is totally general and polar. It has infact nothing to with Grez as an individual.

People have been banned from the sinner before with no public outcry as such we can assume "Nothing, anyone can say anything, no matter how distasteful/insensitive." is not really a valid option.

I assume the person who wrote the poll thought Grez had done wrong, it shows.

The poll could be made more balanced by removal of the bottom option and replacing it with. "I feel Grez's actions were fair, nothing should have happened to him".

If you are going to post a poll about an individual user please ensure the answers refer solely to that individual user.

In it's current state I cannot select an option that satisfies how I feel on the subject (i know thats the nature of polls but in a "What happened should happen to Grez" poll I'd expect there to be an option to say nothing without the extra bullshit)

Similarly, I'd have liked to vote for the 'I thought Grez's posts were rather plonkerish, but I reckon banning his ass was a bit extreme, though I don't think people should never be banned under any circumstances', but sadly it, too, was missed out.

Apparently they can let things go...i suggested that poll when the thread was only just getting started, I couldn't give a toss about the outcome anymore especially after everything thrown around on the thread itself. Sorry if the answers weren't up to your standards muchingfoo, I concede I didn't stay up all night thinking of the best way of phrasing things; if you don't like any political party you vote for the closest one or not at all. Either that or make your own, mods can delete that poll.

I did that poll ages ago when the thread was only just getting sorted, sorry everyone if the answers you wanted aren't on there. I'm not interested in gaining a fair representation of what people think anymore, that poll can be deleted if possible. If your interested you can write your own, I concede I didn't put enough thought into it.

Everyone cries out about free speech, but only when you say the things they want to hear.

Lol, you know foo we were both arguing against the same twat on the AMH thread? I extend a hand to you, sorry about the poll...didn't even think it would come up anyway, looks worse out of the immediate context of the thread when I suggested it.

As a reader of the original post about the american student, it was dunqn's message that seemed initially upsetting to me. That said I'm sure both his and grez's posts were written in a somewhat lighthearted fashion. Banning anyone on the strength of those messages is ridiculous and goes against the point of a public forum imho...

It's not ridiculous - anything posted on The Sinner is effectively published by me (as owner of the site), so if I ban someone, it's entirely my decision to make (for whatever reason).
The Sinner isn't a public forum - certainly it's world readable, and can be updated by anyone with a St Andrews email address, but content submitted by the rest of the world is moderated.
Seeing as it is world readable, if I feel that a particular user is abusing his or her privileges, I can choose to impose a ban in order to stop The Sinner being criticised by external bodies.

In the past 4 years or so, I've only banned 9 users.
