No pretty much all of my lecturers were/are tame, the only example I can think of is Jon Coulston describing the sack of Persepolis "as a bunch of Macedonians getting pissed, having a great party and waking up in the morning with the smoking ruins of the ancient capital all around them". As that might indeed have happened it doesnt seem particularly weird to describe it in such terms.

Oh and there was this guy:

But he was a bit of a muppet and left after a year.

Off the top of my head:

Dr Khovacs showing slideshows of people dressed up as penises and vaginas.

Dr Bradley regularly singing hymns in class.

Stephen Holmes playing Nirvana and Monty Python to illustrate his points.

Any lecture with Alan Torrence.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, wasn't there a chemist who made whiskey lollypops from liquid nitrogen?

I've forgotten half of them

How the hell did we get 103 posts on this topic and no-one, NO-ONE, has mentioned Lars Olsen?

I concur.

I mean, I'm an Arts student, and have been since day 1, and I know all about the tiny tiny epsilon, and the "Güd morning!" as well.

Lectures by the man, the legend that is Matt Farlow.
But then again, I could just be saying that to annoy people...

I don't think he was a muppet at all.

At least the guy had passion!

Richard was a complete comedy genius. Mostly unintentional, yet still brilliant. I think some people found his old school methods of teaching somewhat draconian; personally i reveled in the intense slog of Beginners' Greek. Plus, it now means my Greek is finally as good as my Latin.

Who told you he was returning? I am so excited.

Not sure if this counts as weird or just amusing, but I've seen Stuart Purdie do the following:

- walk backwards into a wall (and promptly be more than a little bit surprised that there was a wall there)
- cheerfully declare, "Three!" while holding up 4 fingers
- proudly announce to the general public in the castle that his name was 'Stuff'.

I've also seem Iain Cupples get thrashed at rapier by his young lad, and can any chemistry student forget the sight of DJ Cole-Hamilton calmly setting fire to various things during lectures? I will leave nameless the member of staff who greeted a geoscience lab full of second years with the words, "Oh, not you bunch of f***wits again. Anybody remembered their coloured pencils this time, or are you all hopeless?"

It was some time ago now, but the opening remarks of the last historiography lecture in second year modern history remain fresh in my mind. The lecturer (Michael Bentley) walked in, stood in front of the hall, and announced, "I'd like to thank you all for handing in your feedback forms, both official and unofficial. I particularly liked the one from a girl... I hope it was a girl... who said she wanted to have my babies." He paused to allow us all to laugh before continuing. "I've bought some Viagra, and all I can say is you've made a grandfather very happy. Now, to quickly review mode A and Ranke..." and he moved seamlessly into his lecture. Legend.

Not exactly weird, but certainly a good way of jazzing up a lecture-the legend that is Robert Bartlett, with myriad insinuaitions about the sexual deviancies of King Richard. Also Tony Lang discovering the camera/projector in the Buchanan theatre and proceeding to make shadow puppets in ID in my first year. Classic.

Which King Richard are we talking about here? The first spent most of his time crusading, not leaving much time to chase tail, while the second was notoriously faithful to his wife.
Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

Richard I (the one who spent all his time Crusading and is supposed to have had an affair with Saladin).
