Just been reading the sinner terms and conditions and they don't seem to be clear on why people are kicked out of the chatroom or banned.

Shouldn't people at least be told why, and should people not be allowed to stay if they are being reasonable, or is the sinner merely dominated by bullies who can kick out whoever they like or dislike, as this does not seem fair, or reasonable.

Thois is meant to be a board for everyone at the university, and to be kicked out for doing nothing wrong, seems to be uunfair on many levels.

However, I personally can't comment on the reason for any kickings/bannings, just stating that the IRC channel is a separate entity to the web site, run by different people, etc.

The sinner website and the sinner chatroom are not offiliated. The owner of the sinner website has no duristiction over the chatroom nor does he use it. The chatroom was founded by Prophet_Tenebrae and is now run by his successors. They administrate it themselves and via their oppped officers as they see fit. The terms and conditions of the chatroom if there are any, can be seen on thew chatroom page priot to you launchign the applet. You are permitted to use the chatroom, ultimately, at the sufferance of those who wield control over it.

The reason that you yourself are "bullied" Hope, is because during your time in the chatroom you've managed to piss off those who hold that power.

And linking to the chatroom from The Sinner could be seen as a tacit affiliation between the two.

Yep, I'll confirm that The Chatroom is separate from The Sinner (apart from the weblink and the obvious similarity in name and users).

I do use the chatroom. I just don't spend as long in there as most other users.

The chatroom isn't a democracy; neither is The Sinner. Both are hosted and run by independent people, who have the right, authority and power to allow or prevent use by anyone they see fit.

I think they're just trying to stress that, being under different management, what applies in the chatroom may or may not apply on the Sinner. The Rules for the two do not correlate.

Can I suggest that, in order to defuse any future confusion on this matter, this fact is placed on the page linking to the applet?

Does the BBC have anything to do with the British Heart Foundation? There's a link from the BBC story on cocoa's effect on the heart to the British Heart Foundation.

It happens all the time on the net-- putting up links to other organisations which you think your users will also want to visit. Especially in this case, it means that more people are more likely to visit your site again if they like that link.

I wasn't saying that the chatroom is an official part of The Sinner. However, that is not to say that the two have nothing to do with each other. They obviously do, and it is easy to see why some people might think there is more of an official link between the two. The link button to the chatroom is exactly the same style as the links to the various other parts of The Sinner site.

as for the links that people see (in their minds), if i had a pound for every person who came up to us on the sinner stall at the soc fayre to say "oh, you do a website as well as a newspaper) i'd have been able to buy a decent round of drinks for the table.
