The Rectorial

Postby Association President on Thu Mar 02, 2006 11:33 am

Hey folks just wanted to say that tickets for the Rectorial Installation are now available free from the General Office of the Union.

The Principal has cancelled afternoon classes on Friday March 10th to allow all students to attend.

Check out www.rector.co.uk for all the details, as well as the timings for the infamous drag the night before!!!

Maybe someone should tell the Bute that (or are they being a law unto themselves as per usual?)

The Bute will allow any student to opt out of class without penalty, in order to go to the Installation. Its a stretch I know but if there is any lecturer who says otherwise please do let me know!

Gowns are very much encouraged, but otherwise no, come as you are.

Is it just me, or are there no timings? The drag page has no information at all, short of a picture.

The problem there is that the classes for the third years cannot be slotted in elsewhere - and the practical skills they teach aren't just for the exam, but they're critical for practicing medicine. The Bute may be guilty of many things, but putting out doctors who are unfit to practice is not one of them!

The Rector will make quite a few stops outside pubs, landmarks, and some halls. Anyone who would like to meet him should find thier favourite spot along the route and wait there.

Now, before the purists out there complain, this year's route doesn't include as many stops directly in front of halls of residence as it really should. This is because the wagon we're using will be used very shortly afterwards for the Kate Kennedy Procession. Hills (even the slightest of hills) will probably damage the carriage and/or hurt the Blues dragging it.

Ironically the person in charge of ensuring the safety of the wagon and thus the person who gets to set the rules for its use just happens to be Martin Passmore.

Does anything special happen at the reception after the installation, or does the Rector simply mingle?

Sir Clement lurked in a corner of the Union bar and sweated, if that's any help.

It is an odd route. The traditional one is to make a formal entry to the town at the West Port. Still, times change.

I quite like the term 'installation'. It makes Mr Pepper sound like a gas boiler.

Perhaps the new Rector could make a big show of buying everyone in the Union a drink after the Drag. Then he could later ask for his money to be reimbursed. Not that a former Rector did that. Oh no.

Mr Pepper said in his rectorial heckling that he wouldn't be put out of pocket on the students' behalf. You may be onto something.

Heh, fantastic image of bolting him to a wall.
