I came across a mediaeval bestiary in the zoology section. It's a fascinating read, but somewhat out of date.

If you have one aesthetic bone in your body, it is just...hideous, and not conducive in the slightest to studying.

In daylight it's not so bad, but when darkness has fallen, the mustard carpet coupled with the harsh light just makes for an unhealthy atmosphere.

Ok, 3 things come immediately to mind:

1. Both interior and exterior scream, "long live the 70's!"

2. the double set of doors to all the bathrooms are too close together so entering & exiting is always awkward

3. And finally (and most grievous of all), by golly, the steps on the staircase are just too little!

Oh my god! My exact thoughts. I thought I was the only one who wedged herself in the toilet doors trying to get in and out with bags and a pile of books and who stomps up the stairs wishing they'd gone for either big steps or tiny steps instead of mincy in-betweens.

I haven't had a problem with books, but then I'm first year Classics and pretty organised with stealing everything for my essay in good time. A new colour scheme would be greatly appreciated though.

It's ugly. It's right next to these beautiful medieval/gothic buildings like the Quad and St Salvators church then you have....THE CONCRETE HORROR!!! It's hideous, and the inside is little better. Replace the carpet tiles or something. Also, what are they building next to the library?

There's a library*?

* I have somehow never had the need to go to the library since starting in September. Go me! Whereas most of my arts student friends seem to spend half their life in it...

finding out that the book that saulcat says in on the shelf is in fact no where to be seen.

The only reasons i can find for this are that some complete wanker is reading it in the library without clocking it out or the computer is taking the piss.

when asking the librarian if she can think up a plausable explanation for this,

"have you looked on the reshelving"

of course i have looked on the reshelving, that was my second decision after looking continually in the same space for over 15 minutes hopeing that the book will miraculously appear out of thin air

i have one word for the big mustard coloured pityful excuse for a library -shite.

and that is a fucking fact6.

blow it up and build a new but dont forget to give me american foreign policy a contemporary strategy before you fucking do it you over hyped university mother fucker

ahhhh thats better

New IR building, I think. It's on the land that was ear-marked for the additional stages of the library, but now will probably never be built.

Oh, and what's wrong with the library. Mobile phones, chatting, eating, socialising.

It closes at 5pm on a Saturday. Aargh!

It would be much easier to ask 'What's right with the library?' Methinks the answer would be pretty short.

a) How would you know it screams "the 70's?"
b) What was wrong with the 70's?
c) The library is very extensive I've found it most useful for a range of books that I've taken out.

There are lots of things wrong with the Library

Postby Ben Reilly on Sat Mar 04, 2006 6:03 pm

I've arranged a "forum" on Tuesday March the 21st at 7PM in Lower Parliament Hall where Jon Purcell, the new Librarian, is going to come along and talk about the proposed alterations and get feedback from students.

Come along, it's your chance to have an input to the future of the Library.

There's an entire collection of bird journals missing. When I pointed this out it took 3 tries before someone actually went to look - & then they just said 'yeah, they appear to be missing'. And that was it, no attempt to locate them or even taking down my details so they could let me know if it ever turned up. And Friday I had a SL book booked, went to get it out & they said someone else had it booked . . . went there today & it was still sitting there!

Apart from the toiled doors, the awkward stairs and the appaling colour scheme, I find it really cold in there, especially on the top two floors. It's warm while running around looking for books, but as soon as I sit down to work. I turn into an ice cube within an hour. Is it just me??? And no, I am not wearing a T-shirt, I am talking fleece jacket and scarf here...
