St Mary's College Bell Broken!

Postby macgamer on Fri Apr 07, 2006 11:36 am

St Mary's College Bell is broken, someone has rung it too vigorously and the bell has swung round too far, thus getting jammed in its mounting.

I fear that we won't be hearing the quaint tolling for a little while in St Mary's Quad.

Surely there's some tradition associated with such things, and we're all going to die.

H5N1 in Fife a coincidence? I think not...

maybe a flu ridden bird is actually hiding in the bell tower, ready to pounce on a would-be bell-fixer.

Random incidents in Fife as a harbinger to the apocalypse?

Not really that far-fetched actually.

I thought that was a psychology experiment? I really want to believe that it was, it's the sort of head-fuck I want to do when I'm in Honours. :-P
If Jack Bauer was put in a room with Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Nina Myers and handed a gun with two bullets, he'd shoot Nina twice.

Mrs Thingumyjig should be delighted - guess her placards weren't so ridiculous after all...

Is the actual bell cracked or is just the frame from which is hangs bust? (if it's cracked the cost is enourmous...)

As for the other posts saying this is a portent of doom I say that, like the ravens leaving the tower of london signals the end of the country, the sale of Hamilton clearly has brought a curse down upon the university...

Hey...

Apparently, Mr and Mr Ross have moved to Greece for now. That is according to my friend, who used to go to the same church as her.

[s]I've wanted to post for a while about Mrs Ross but thought it wasn't appropriate because I don't know her at all, but we students talk about her not realising that she is a real person. I think for the most part we mean it good naturedly-- we consider her as much a part of the St Andrews experience as the sea.[/s] Unlike the sea, however, Mrs Ross will not be in St Andrews forwever. A colleague who is not a Sinner user in the slightest but is a good friend of Mrs Ross told me last year that Mrs Ross was quite ill. I imagine that's why she's in Greece. And the male street preacher is not her husband, even though we all call him Mr Ross because we figure he must be closely tied with Mrs Ross. I guess I just wanted to share my feeligns that sometimes I think we students don't realise how human Mrs Ross is-- we concentrate too much on the fables which exist around her.

From the ground you can see the bell and it appears to be undamaged. However it is simply stuck pointing nearly vertically upwards.
