Cost of the monarchy vs Cost of the BBC

Postby The Kaiser on Sat Apr 22, 2006 11:38 am

From yesterday's Daily Telegraph:

Terry Wogan: £800,000 - more than the total cost of train travel for the entire Royal Family in 2005.

Chris Moyles: £630,000 - more than the Duke of Edinburgh's payment from the Civil List (£359,000) and the Duke of York's allowance from The Queen (£249,000) combined.

Chris Evans: £540,000 - more than The Queen's allowance to the Princess Royal and the Earl of Wessex combined.

And the minor royals should get more money because...?

As much as I bitch about the licence fee, I do get a lot more entertainment out of the BBC than the Duke of York, the Princess Royal and the Earl of Wessex combined. The Duke of Edinburgh is almost worth his fee in entertainment terms, in a David-Brenty kind of way.

How much for Doctor Who vs the Royal Family?

I'll most likely put considerations and judgement on something as arbitrary as that.

Wogan deserves every penny. Without him there would be chaos across the land.

Infact, BBC Radio 2 is worth all that money, it's just that good.

and Radio 4. I would gladly see the budget of radio 1 spilt between 2 and 4, to fund for an increase in genuinely good broadcasting.

does Wogan still do the radio 2 breakfast time slot? that made getting up for work last summer possible for me. on the way to work listening to "Wake up with Wogan" was great. :P

He still does the Eurovision contest as well from what i know. his awful comments are the only thing that make it almost worth watching.

Terry Wogan is the reason I wake up angry every day.

(Or maybe it's because my radio tunes into the same station when it turns on as I was listening to when it turns off)

Fire them all!

Each is as pointless a use for money that could be better spent elsewhere as the last.

Ha!

Guilty as charged.

I wouldn't mind it so much, if each broadcast wasn't peppered with that stupid Children In Need jingle.
