I imagine it's a lot lower than 2%...Europe and North America are really the only places where it occurs and as time passes, thanks to unpatroitic men and women ;) that makes an increasingly small percentage of the world. So, let's generously say 20% in Britain and maybe 5% in the US (the US figure is just a guess)...

20% of 58 million is 11.6 million and 5% of 281 million is 14 million. So altogether - assuming that the rest of the world account for a statically insignificant then that's 25.6 million out of 6 billion, making it a little over 0.4%. Sorry for being so pedantic - insincerely.

I personally don't find red-haired men that sexy, even though my father has red hair (and isn't every girl supposed to fancy guys that remind her of her father? I'm not making that up! I think some psychologist did.)
Anyway, though, I do think that women with red hair are beautiful.
Amercans are more red hair amiable, by the looks of it. Brits seem to go "EWWW, red hair!" While Americans go "oh, look how gorgeous it is!" Just look at the different responses to Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts (when she has her hair red). Americans love them while Brits, from what I have seen, think they're ugly.

Red Hair != Ginger

Postby Pilmour Boy on Mon Dec 16, 2002 11:48 pm

I think that red haired women can look amazing. Look at Debbie in the Raisin, plus a couple of others around town I know/can think of. Now they look good.

i seen to have an even more specialised taste then this, ginger women who have or are doing English literature at Uni. Let it not be said that I get typecast.

Hmm... useless knowledge to the rescue-

less than 2 percent of the world is red-headed

in the US the number is about 3%- naturally, anyway.

the places with the highest percent of red-heads are Ireland and Scotland, with 11ish and 13% respectivly.

Never thought that would be useful...

I don't see how anti-ginger discrimination etc is any more PC than jokes about pakistanis or blacks or whoever. For some reason one seems socially acceptable while the other isn't. Neither should be.

It is a lot easier to change your hair colour than it is to change your race or religion.

But why should they feel they have to? That is a lame justification for it.

"It is a lot easier to change your hair colour than it is to change your race or religion."

In what way is it difficult to change religion? The process may be longer, and, in some cases, more permanent, than a change in hair colour, but it is not intrinsically any more difficult.

That its easier to change makes it a more valid reason for criticism? I don't think so

Al, i can't believe you think it's just as easy to change religion as hair colour, assuming that having a religion makes you kind of partial to keeping it! :P

If you have a religion and you're partial to it, why would you want to change it?

I stand by my point. Barring religions that require alteration or mutilation to the body for a person to become a convert, it is no more difficult to change religion than hair colour.

People who like their hair colour still change it, just to see if it could look even nicer. I know it's unlikely for this to apply to religion, but you never know for sure.

What exactly is the difference between redhead and ginger?

My housemates keep calling me ginger (rhyming with minger) and I don't like it *sob*

"Redhead" is how gingers describe themselves. Or sometimes they use "strawberry blonde". Ha!

Red head is a more polite way of saying it because 'ginger' has become such a derogatory word for it. Most of the insults thrown at red headed people contain the word 'ginger' so some people now try not to use it, especially if they were bullied because of it.

Most folk don't really care though, and ginger hair is becoming more widely regarded as a sexy colour, eg Nicole Kidman.

You seem to believe that religion is some kind of club one joins. While one might be fond of that club, they can always switch to a different club if they feel like it. To believe that changing religions and dying one's hair take the same energy is ridiculous. For many people their religion is the core of their life philosophy. Because it is at the core of their being, nearly everything they do involves their faith. To state that changing one's hair color and changing one's religion are similar is an insult to all those who have been persecuted and killed because of their belief system. One can change their hair color and still be the same person, as hair is an external trait. Yet, it is impossible to change one's religion and still be the same in personality, as one's beliefs are intrinsic to their very being. This is why people die for their beliefs, because to them it would be impossible to live without their faith. A person's religion cannot be taken away from them. Whereas, anyone can dye their hair at the drop of a hat.
