You are not alone. I will probably still protest, I haven't missed any of the protests at my time at Uni, I like the spirit of the demo. But this is a protest against a protest, isn't that a bit reactionary? Reilly?

This is a demonstration calling for exams to be set - which will allow more time for negotiations.

From what the media is saying the situation for us is not looking good. i will come along but i do not want the demo to be tooo negative against staff.

there has in fact been a facebook event set up since last thursday and has to date been sent to approx. 600 students. 154 people have confirmed their attendance and 242 are maybe showing up. Its an ideal opportunity for the students to finally be heard and recognised in this argument. Bring along any banners you fancy making- no vulgarities allowed by law! and don your gowns. This could be good and we have organised some press coverage too! St. Marys Quad 1pm tomorrow

Just been out doing some publicity for the demo, and it seems a lot of people think there was a resolution today. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Please tell everyone you know that this is still a major problem, and we need to act. We need as many people as possible to be there tomorrow to allow our voice to be heard, loud and clear. We're the one's caught in the middle of this. We are not protesting for either side here. We all have our individual opinions on the matter, but the one thing we are all agreed on is that we want out exams, we want our worked marked, and (for those in 4th year) we want to grduate. Please come along, bring your friends, tell everyone you know. We just want the degree we've been working (and paying for) for the last 4 or 5 years!

While this may be true, the national AUT does have a valid point, however much it is St Andrews' students favour to disagree with it. By making local pay offers, they risk two things: firstly, that it weakens the AUT's stance nationally to construct a pay deal as more and more universities catch on to making local offers; and secondly, that it sets a president for pay offers throughout the country that might otherwise be higher. In short, the pay deal is very good for St Andrews, but not necessarily good for the rest of the country.
