While this may be true, the national AUT does have a valid point, however much it is St Andrews' students favour to disagree with it. By making local pay offers, they risk two things: firstly, that it weakens the AUT's stance nationally to construct a pay deal as more and more universities catch on to making local offers; and secondly, that it sets a president for pay offers throughout the country that might otherwise be higher. In short, the pay deal is very good for St Andrews, but not necessarily good for the rest of the country.
