I am part of a beta testing group and one of the things we are testing is www.studentsalltogether.com .

When I first saw the site I thought that this was basically just an exact copy of facebook.com , which basically it is.

The sites aim is to be to UK students what facebook is to US students. Problem I thought it that alot of UK students can and already have facebook accounts, so why do we need another?

It will be UK only, it will be free from advertising (paid for by donations) and they don't sell your infomation on to third parties or obtain infomation about you from third parties like facebook does. This I think is a good thing.

Anyway they want as many students as possible to sign up and try to iron out as many bugs as they can. So please sign up and tinker about.

I don't think it'll matter that we already have facebook, as more people are likely to have friends at UK uni's, if they're from here, than American uni's. Plus its another form of procrastination, isn't it?

yeah you were right, even the homepage looks like a rip off of facebook. :P
might go for it though, i dont like the way facebook is changing everything too much.

I got another one of these for www.pplparty.co.uk, they are all trying to cash in on facebook's success and your better off not bothering, the only thing they are interested in is making profit quickly.

Edit. I wish facebook would get round to adding more UK unis though, at least maybe these upstarts will force them to expand a little.

From America, a bill designed to people using sites like Facebook safer from online paedophiles by banning young people from those same sites.

Facebook has recently added York UK and Birmingham UK as well as a few other UK unis, so they are getting there slowly...

I signed up for this studentsalltogether thing, and I agree, it is just a crappy version of facebook.

Facebook finally added Glasgow a couple of days ago.

If they'd add Aberdeen and Dundee as well, then all my old school friends would be on it.

(Seeing as about 20 of my school year are at St Andrews alone... plus those in the years above).

When social networking websites get big you should be paying attention. If I were you I'd hope facebookcom does not add more universities.
